BRUNO CAMPOS

Updated: Tuesday, October 2, 2001

Ann from Pleasantville, NY - who works at 23rd and 5th - dropped an e-mail commenting on how comforting it was that Showtime kept their programming on, the Sunday night following September 11th:

"After being glued to the news for 6 days straight, I couldn't stand it anymore. It was too much, I was crying too much. I was worrying about going back to work the next day, and then I remembered that I always watched Leap Years on Sunday nights. I couldn't believe that I almost forgot about my usual Sunday night ritual. So I switched channels and there it was and for the first time that whole horrible week, I paid attention to something else besides the tragedy. I know they have nothing to do with the "Showtime" schedule, but thank you Bruno Campos and the cast of Leap Years for just being there. I really needed the break, and I stopped being obsessed with gloom and doom and started thinking, "How are Joe and Beth going to finally get together?" Psychologically, it was a big help for me at that point."

There are many organizations which need your support, but Showtime's recommendation was that those interested in helping out contact Helping.org or call 1-877-REDCROSS. Thanks to those of you who sent e-mails asking about everyone - thanks also for your love and support.

And thanks again, Ann ... we're glad you survived the day too ...!

On a non-related subject: thank goodness for "word-of-mouth" - those of you who have found the site are wondering why it hasn't been found by the search engines yet -- we have absolutely no idea! While mulling over the idea of re-submitting the site for a second time ... (we're too cheap to pay for a site submission service, obviously) ... thanks for the "via links" and word-of-mouth visitors - hopefully, it will be found soon.

Brazilian-born actor Bruno Campos, a graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy and Northwestern University, catapaulted to fame as Christina Applegate's Chilean neighbor Diego Vasquez in her sitcom, Jesse - but not before building the foundation for it with a truly remarkable combination of hard work, courage, determination and a steadfast refusal to back down in the face of adversity.

(Fifty years from now, while being handed a 'Lifetime Achievement' award of some sort, they'll still be telling of the story of how he refused to leave a Warner Brothers' executive's office until he had a deportation-halting deal - and got it - a day he still recalls as being the day when he decided "not to accept the word no".) With a strong theater background, an Oscar-winning film and two successful series already on his resume, it's easy to overlook his relatively young age, only 27, but not hard to envision a long and successful future for an actor with his drive and talent. His current role is as attorney Joe Rivera in the Showtime original series, "Leap Years", where he continues to attract new fans.

Originally on the slate for the 2001-2002 Broadcast Year (just starting) was a development deal for a series being developed for the WB, called "More". Bruno was the only actor cast for the program; obviously, his 20-episode commitment for "Leap Years" took precendence. This may still be in the process of development or on a back burner somewhere; unless it has been nixed altogether for another reason. Of course, if "Leap Years" is renewed for additional episodes by "Showtime" ... and "More" is green-lit ... they may have to recast, so keep your eye on this one. From two sources:

"Pilot commitments for one-hour series for The WB include two of its most successful executive producers. Aaron Spelling, who is responsible for the network's two top-rated shows, "7th Heaven" & "Charmed," has a pilot titled DEEP, which is written by Peter Steinfeld ("Drowning Mona"). Ryan Murphy ("Popular") is creating another series for The WB, "MORE", from Warner Bros. Television, in which three men fulfill women's romantic fantasies. The series is from Tollin-Robbins and will be directed by Brian Robbins("Varsity Blues"); Bruno Campos ("Jesse") has already been cast."
"Susanne Daniels, The WB Entertainment President, announced several additional development deals Saturday during the annual Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour in Pasadena, CA., including new shows from Aaron Spelling, "Popular's" Ryan Murphy and "Clueless'" Amy Heckerling. Spelling, who already produces "7th Heaven" and "Charmed" for the net, is producing an undercover cop show, "Deep," while Murphy is developing "More," a show starring Bruno Campos ("Jesse") about three men who fulfill the romantic fantasies of women."
