Ralf Schumacher entered Formula one in 1997 as a young fighter who no-one took seriously because they believed he was in F1 because of his brother (Michael Schumachers) success. They were wrong. He made an impact quickly taking third in his third ever grand prix. His season was darkened by many accidents and spins, he needed to tame his own speed.

In 1998 he had the experienced team mate Damon Hill and he performed against him brilliantly out- racing the 1996 world champion on many occasions.

In 1999 he moved to Williams a move the press said would ever make or break him. It made him. He scored points on a number of occasions, scored several podium positions and almost won the Nurburgring grand prix (he got a puncture under 20 laps from the end). His team mate failed to score any points(!).

In 2000 he stayed at Williams. They had a new Engine deal with BMW and expected to be well of the pace, they were wrong. Ralf and his new team mate Jenson Button scored points on many occasions and Ralf took a few podium places.

2001- so far Ralf has scored 12 points after taking his first GP win in Imola. From third on the grid he made a flying start and led every single lap of the race. He set the fastest lap which was also the lap record and the fastest race time around the circuit ever.
