Opportunity knocks, and Dion answers

Until now, Céline Dion has been taking baby steps with her charitable involvement in Las Vegas.

No more. Diva Las Vegas announced Tuesday that on Easter she is turning over proceeds from every seat to her "A New Day ... " show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace to Opportunity Village, a local nonprofit organization serving those with intellectual disabilities.

"Wow. That's all anyone around here can say today," a still-stunned Linda Smith, chief development officer of Opportunity Village, told VegasBeat in a phone conversation after Dion's announcement.

If every ticket is sold, the donation could end up topping $1 million, Smith said.

Dion's spokeswoman Kris Lingle told us that it is not the first, but this was "far and away" the largest donation Dion has made to a Las Vegas charity.

In a statement, Dion said that she and her husband, René Angélil, "have fallen in love with this wonderful organization and the brave individuals it serves."

"Opportunity Village has been working so hard ... helping thousands of adults with disabilities and their families. They deserve international exposure, and I am honored to be able to help them deliver their message on behalf of people with profound disabilities."

Dion is donating the proceeds from 3,700 tickets for the April 11 performance. Caesars Palace is donating the other 400 seats in the room for Opportunity Village to sell as special packages that include a meet-and-greet with Dion.

"We have waited 50 years for something like this to happen to us," Smith said. "Lots of Las Vegas entertainers -- especially Wayne Newton -- have been extraordinarily generous to us, but this is special."

Right-Click here to download the audio file of the interview Rene gave today for the Canadian radio. Format: Mp3, Size: 53 MB, Duration: about 1 hour, Quality: High.

RENE TALKS ABOUT CÉLINE< RENÉ-CHARLES AND HIMSELF

During a radio-interview broadcasted this afternoon (on this morning in the U.S.A. - Canada) on Radio-Canada, René, Céline's manager/husband, talked about his past, present and future.

He described himself in 3 words generous, audacious and pig-headed. He said that people see Céline and René, or René and Céline but there's a separate Céline and a separate René. René talked about his career with 'Les Baronnets' group, he said he doesn't miss it even though he still has great memories

The job of manager bring to him PLEASURE. "In any job, if it doesn't bring your pleasure, then you're not doing the right job". He likes his job because it's a challenge, it's his passion. His idol is Brian Epstein, manager of The Beatles.

Just before he met Céline, he was studying to become a lawyer. In an old interview, he said not to mix love and business. Before he met Céline, he said he would never manage a woman again because they are too easily led by love but took a chance with Céline because she was only a girl (not yet a woman).

In the beginning, both him and Céline had a mutual goal: success. Now their mutual goal is René-Charles and the family life. They live a simple life. They don't go out (don't participate in parties like other celebrities). Even though they live in the United States, they are still Quebecers. They watch Quebec TV and news on satellite.

His biggest strategy was at the time of Incognito, when he learned that there was a Sony convention in the city of Quebec, he convinced Sony that Céline would sing even though nobody else was singing. She sang 'Where Does My Heart Beat Now', and a week later, she had a contract for the internationa launch of Unison.

He gets his "gambler" side from his family, especially his grandmother. He used to watch his family play cards all the time when he was little.

When the media say bad things of Céline or make fun of her, it affects him deeply, but fortunately, Céline doesn't know of these things. Host said he was lucky to have defeated cancer. He said he hasn't defeated cancer and never will. Cancer cannot be defeated. But that he is lucky to be healthy at the moment.

René said that Céline's career can't go any higher; they are at the summit. Their priority now is René-Charles and their family life. When they are at home, there is no music, no trophies or awards hanigng on the wall and not talking about show business. They are a happy family like any other family.

The CD, which retails for $25.00 is available exclusively at Amazon.com. The song that Céline putting on this album is "To Love You More". Celine's management offered the rock band to buy the rights for $50,000 USD, but the offer was rejected by the band. Parody of Pop Diva Celine Dion Pulled Off Air

QUEBEC CITY (Reuters) - Canadian pop diva Celine Dion doesn't like mockery, or maybe it's her husband and manager Rene Angelil.

Angelil sent a notice of claim to a popular Montreal-based radio station, demanding it stop playing a parody of Dion's song "I'm Alive," in which the singer is called, among other things, "annoying."

The radio station claims it was only trying to be funny, but Angelil didn't laugh at the joke.

"They took off her voice and invented vulgar lyrics. It's unacceptable," he told reporters on Thursday, stressing that copyright law prevented such unauthorized use of a recording. The Dion parody was withdrawn on Thursday.

Angelil also pressured the Radio Energie network, which operates the Montreal station and eight others across the province of Quebec, not to run any Dion songs in the future.

Montreal-born Dion, who has sold more than 100 million albums around the world, is best known for the theme song of the blockbuster movie "Titanic."

We found this interview on Parenting.com

PARENTING.COM: In January 2000, you took a self-imposed break from your professional life to concentrate on your personal life. Your newest release is called A New Day Has Come — after more than two years away, is this the beginning of a new "day?"

Celine: Yes, this is a new day for me. It marks my return with a new album, and I'm very excited about it. I feel like it took a lot more of my heart and soul…I had a lot of things to sing about. But also, for René and I, a new day really represents our son, René-Charles. We gave life, and when you give life to a child, it changes you for the rest of your life. I enjoy life and being with my husband and son.

PARENTING.COM: In addition to your new album, you've come roaring back with a three-year, engagement at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The show — a mixture of song, performance art, and art technology — sounds like quite a unique undertaking. Can you tell us more?

Celine: Yes, this show is going to be different from anything I've done before. I'm working with Franco Dragone, who is creating a beautiful visual show — something you can't take on the road with you. It's too big and impossible to travel with, so I'm going to be at Caesars Palace, where they are building a 4000-seat theatre. The show will be spectacular — with 70 performers on stage with me! I will be performing a 90-minute show, 5 nights a week. I'll sing songs from my new album, and some older songs as well, but it will be a visual show, like theatre. It will be something new for me, and I can't wait.

PARENTING.COM: You've been remarkably candid about your longing for a child, the struggle with conception, and your husband René Angélil's battle with cancer. How have you maintained balance in your life with so much living in the public eye?

Celine: The last two years I was able to take some time off, and do the things I love. My time off has been special. René and I played golf, visited friends and family, and had a miracle baby. I was able to have a normal life. I would wear my pajamas until 2 in the afternoon, make my own coffee and toast, go shopping…normal stuff. To be honest with you, my life is much more peaceful and relaxed now.

PARENTING.COM: As science advances, and sperm and egg manipulation gets increasingly sophisticated, there are more and more ways to boost fertility rates so couples can have those "miracle babies." What were some of the things that surprised you about your experience with intracytoplasmic sperm injections?

Celine: I was surprised that it happened after only one try. I know that a lot of couples go through tests and in vitro. It's a long process that involves a lot of patience. René and I decided to do this at the beginning of my break. We had a doctor in Florida, and one in Montreal, and also some specialists in New York. We were very lucky that it happened the first time. Today, we have our little miracle child. I definitely plan to have another child when the time is right.

PARENTING.COM: Music is obviously an activity that can bring families close together, especially in large families. Can you tell us about some of your memories, growing up, with 13 brothers and sisters?

Celine: I came from a big family, and grew up in a little house, sleeping three or four people in one bed. I have memories of us making fires outside, roasting marshmallows, and singing folk music. I was incredibly lucky to grow up in a home that was filled with music. We were not rich, but we loved each other, and had our music. There would always be music playing! I remember climbing on the kitchen table, and singing like I was on stage. My mom played the violin; my father the accordion; Jacques played the guitar; Clement was on the drums; Daniel played the accordion-piano; Denise, Claudette and Ghislaine sang.

PARENTING.COM: And how will you bring music into your son René-Charles' life?

Celine: René-Charles will always have music around him because I'll be doing my shows, and he will always be with me. It doesn't matter to me if he goes into show business or not. If he wants, he can be a garbage man, a fireman, a lawyer, a father — I just want him to be a good human being. I want him to be generous, caring, and to have a good heart.

PARENTING.COM: First-time motherhood is a time of joy and tremendous emotions — what has been unexpected in this new phase of your life?

Celine: I feel important to him — I'm there for his first steps, his first words, his first nightmare, his first "Mommy, I need you." I wake up and eat Cheerios with my son — there's nothing better than that! But being a mom is also a difficult job. You know, René-Charles is walking — no, he's running now! In a few years he'll go to school, then have girlfriends, and then he'll want to marry. As time goes by, your child needs you less and less, and that's a terribly sad thing for a mother. Everyday is unexpected, but every moment with René-Charles is so precious.

Dion's Fla. home listed for $20M US

Source Jam!

JUPITER, Fla. (AP) -- Superstar Celine Dion is selling her home along the Intercoastal Waterway for her move to Las Vegas.

For $20 million US, the buyer gets just about everything in the 1,400-square-metre, custom home -- including the furnishings, the art on the walls and the pricey vintages in the wine room.

It also includes a rooftop terrace with misting sprays of water to cool the summer sun and a fireplace to chase the chill of winter.

Plus there's a soundproof master bedroom in case the buyer wants to sing as powerfully as the present owner.

"You could close on the house today and throw a dinner party tomorrow," said Rob Thomson of Waterfront Properties & Club Communities in Jupiter. "Even her household staff is willing to stay."

Dion, 34, bought the waterfront lot in November 1996 for $625,000 and built a Mediterranean-style home with "an old-style European flavour," Thomson said.

The diva from Quebec is moving to a reported $100 million, three-year engagement at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. Her first show is set for March.

Dion, who proved a gracious subject for people wanting to snap her picture while she shopped on Palm Beach's swank Worth Avenue, gave Palm Beach County recognition by featuring Jupiter's DuBois Park in the music video for her latest album. And in May she taped a Memorial Day special in Fort Lauderdale aboard the aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman.

The 2002 Award of Excellence will be presented to two outstanding individuals who made a significant contribution to improve the lives of children. 20 August 2002

According to celinedion.com Céline's currently working on her new French album with several well-known songwriters/producers. We sure can't wait!

On Taiwan's Sony Music Site, they have an article that talks about "I'm Alive" being the theme song of "Stuart Little 2". The article says Celine is very happy to be able to have the song in this movie, because the love and support from the parents of Stuart in the movie, and the strong loving relationship within the family reminds her of her own big family. Inside the movie, the father of Stuart told Stuart that what you are losing right now, may end up being a gain/a good thing at the end. And Celine said that's exactly what her father had often told her in the past too. That's why she enjoyed the movie so much. At the end of the article, it says that ANDHC has now sold 9 million copies around the world since its release in March.
