McBride digs up plenty of dirt along with motives and alibis, but when one of the victim’s shirts turns up on Ebay, he goes into full gear. With psychology at the heart of his sleuthing success, McBride cuffs the real killer, the only person motivated by revenge.

McBride is shocked when his good friend, a famed defense attorney, is stabbed to death outside his home. The police have arrested a Latino teenager caught pawning the attorney’s stolen Rolex. To complicate matters, the suspect’s sister wants McBride to defend her brother.
The accused claims he had found the watch alongside the road near the crime scene when he took a motorcycle he had been repairing for a test drive. The suspect has a clean reputation and McBride thinks it unlikely that he would stab a man 16 times to steal a watch. With the evidence against his client mounting, McBride realizes that to win his case he may have to expose the secrets not only of his idol but of several people who were close to him.
