Enrique Martin Morales a.k.a Ricky Martin, was born on December 24th,1971, in Puerto Rico's capital city San Juan. His mother Nereida Morales, and father Enrique Martin split when Ricky was only two years old.

Ricky had a flair for performing from an early age. If he wasn't acting in school plays, or singing in choir, he found some way to be in the spotlight. Ricky set his sites on the Latin boy band Menudo. Ricky failed three auditions, but finally in 1984 he made it in. For the next five years Ricky traveled the world with Menudo sharping his skills as an artist.

Having reached the "outing age" In 1989 Ricky returned home to Puerto Rico to finish high school. After high school he moved to New York to find his identity. Ricky soon picked up his bags & moved to Mexico to pursue both an acting & singing career. He soon landed a job playing a character named Pablo in the popular Mexican soap opera Alcanzar Una Estrella.

The soap opera was made into a movie & Ricky won a Heraldo Award ( Mexico's academy Award) for his performance. Ricky released his debut solo album, Ricky Martinn, in 1991. The album was an instant success. Ricky followed up his success with his sophomore album Me Amaras. Soon Ricky had sold-out concerts & he was winning awards.


Ricky moved to L.A to pursue his dreams of acting. He was cast as a musician/bartender in the popular U.S soap General Hospital. This was the kind of exposure Ricky needed. Two years later he left GH, and went to Broadway, to act in Les Miserables. Balancing Broadway shows & a musicial career, Ricky released A Medio Vivir, in 1995. This album had a great diversity of sounds, from hard rock to flamenco, from cumbia to a touch of techno.

In the summer of 1997 Disney's animated film Hercules was out in theaters. Ricky was the voice of Hercules in the Spanish version, he also sang the end-credit song "No Importa la Distancia" ( "Go the Distance.") Also that summer Ricky recorded a dance version of "(Un Dos Tres) Maria" The song was a hit in European countries, resulting in the best-selling 1997 single in Europe. Ricky became widely known to everyone after performing "La Copa de La Vida" at the 1998 World Cup Soccer tournament. Ricky's fourth solo album Vuelve was released, it was an instant success, with its romantic ballads & get up & dance numbers. Vuelve produced serveral strong singles(" Por Arriba, Por Abajo", "Vuelve", "La Bomba")

Ricky hadn't hit it big in the U.S yet, but he was selling out concerts all over. Febuary 24th, 1999, a night everyone will remember. Ricky Martin delievered a show-stopping performence of "La Copa de la Vida." Ricky's performance had everyone on their feet. This was his BIG moment in the spotlight. But to add to this extraodrinary night, Ricky won a Grammy for Vuelve.


What next? Ricky was on a roll, he released his English crossover album, Ricky Martin. Livin La Vida Loca, the first single off the new album skyrocketed to the top of the charts, Vuelve was certifed Platinum, and Ricky had a #1 hit. Ricky was everywhere, talk shows,playing on the radio,magazine covers, concerts, you name it. He performed with serveral others at the Ninth Annual Rainforest Foundation Benefit concert. ricky also perfromed with Luciano Pavarotti. His album sold 661,000 copies in the first week. He then started out on a tour of the world & U.S. Ricky Martin paved the path for other Latin artsits in 1999.

Ricky is now finishing up the second leg of his U.S. He will begin shooting a music video for his new album in July, his album is due out in November.
