TV Guide Online: Tonight we are chatting with Justin Kirk from the TV series Jack and Jill. Hello Justin! Thanks for joining us this evening!
Justin Kirk: Hey, everybody thanks for talking to me.
Question: How similar are you to your character?
Justin Kirk: You know I'm becoming more similar. I started out fairly far from him, but I've become nicer and more sensitive as the episodes go by. I don't know anything about medical stuff, but I have a dictionary from my mom to get the right pronunciations and I'm not dating Jaime Presley, alas.
Question: How do you get along with the rest of the cast?
Justin Kirk: Depends on the day of the week. Right now we hate each other, because we are under an immense amount of stress. Does a computer convey sarcasm? We are actually quite friendly.
Question: The office fight night episode. Was that based on a real situation or completely made up?
Justin Kirk: Completely made up. I can't imagine anything more ridiculous.
Question: Is the show filmed in New York at all or on a set?
Justin Kirk: We shot some of the pilot in New York. Since then it's all on the lot in Burbank, CA. One of the most glamorous and exciting aspects of shooting on a Hollywood lot is turning the corner and being on an NY street, with fake snow and taxicabs. Then getting to walk off into your convertible.
Question: When did you start acting?
Justin Kirk: I did my first play when I was seven years old. Bertold Brecht's the Caucasian Chalk Circle. My stepfather at the time was a drama student in Washington. They needed small children. I'd wanted to be an actor for four years at that point.
Question: What has been your favorite role so far?
Justin Kirk: The cliched answer is always the one you are working on. That is certainly true in many ways. I recently did a play called June Moon in NY. That was an awful lot of fun.
Question: How did you enjoy working with Jason Alexander and the rest of the cast in the film version of Love! Valour! Compassion!? Were you in the Broadway version?
Justin Kirk: I was. We started Off-Broadway and had no idea that it would become what it did. Jason was the only new cast member and he ingratiated himself wonderfully. We were all pretty green to movie making. Including the director, so it was cool to experience all those things together for the first time.
Question: What actors and actresses do you admire or look up to?
Justin Kirk: I actually like more women in my age group. I love the old guys, Nick Nolte, Jack Nicholson, Warren Beatty. My current favorites, are Julianne Moore, Parker Posey, Samantha Morton, Toni Collette.
Question: What do you in your spare time?
Justin Kirk: Sit and stare at the wall. Watch episodes of Jack and Jill over and over and over. B) I like to go see local LA bands.
Question: If u were not on TV what would u be doing?
Justin Kirk: I would like to be a DJ. Not a two turntables and a microphone guy, but have a radio show I'd want one where I programmed it myself ala Vin Scelsa or Rodney on the Rock ROQ.
Question: Justin, how is your love life?!?
Justin Kirk: #$*$. Is this my ex-girlfriend?
Question: Can you give us any hints for upcoming episodes?
Justin Kirk: More love, more laughs, more tears, more commercials. In all seriousness, we often get scripts the day before we start shooting them.
Question: Are you working on any new projects coming out soon?
Justin Kirk: I did a movie last fall called the Eden Myth. You can check out the web site at www.theedenmyth.com
Question: Who, out of the people you have acted with, have you kept in touch or became close friends with?
Justin Kirk: Sure, lots. The most exciting person I worked with this year on Jack and Jill, I haven't spoken to since but was a hero of mine - Harry Shearer - from This is Spinal Tap, and The Simpson’s.
Question: Do you have a dream role?
Justin Kirk: Perry Gynt. That may be a few years away.
Question: What do you enjoy most about working on Jack & Jill?
Justin Kirk: Getting a new script every eight days. I don't like downtime.
Question: Do you think the dating scene is really difficult or do dramas like Jack & Jill make it seem more complicated than it is?
Justin Kirk: I think it's at least that difficult. ...when it's bad. When it's good, well you know.
Question: What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened on set?
Justin Kirk: I'm not easily embarrassed. There is strength in embracing your pathetic moments.
Question: Is there a fan website or address to get autographed pics of you?
Justin Kirk: Come and stalk me. B) You can write to the show. Jack and Jill c/o Warner Bros. 4000 Warner Blvd. Burbank CA, 91522
Question: What is your favorite TV family of all time?
Justin Kirk: That's a good question. The Simpson’s.
Question: Who's the prankster on the show?
Justin Kirk: Simon Rex used the facilities in my trailer and didn't flush. But I never found it, so he had to tell me. It was a kind of pathetic prank.
TV Guide Online: Thanks for talking with us tonight Justin! We had a great it and we and hope you can come back soon!
Justin Kirk: Thanks to everybody for watching the show. Please choose your favorite WB executive and harass them about how much you love it.
