Tailbox Design

These are my thoughts for the design of a tailbox for my Vision R-40. I plan to use 1cm thick coroplast as the main material, and make the box out of two parts: the MAIN BODY section, and a tetra-hedron shaped TOP LID, to be hinged at the front.

I figure the main section has to be at least 16" wide, as that's the width of the Vision seat back. I am considering making it 20" wide, as my combined upper arms and chest width is a fair bit wider than the seat itself.

My shoulders do extend about 4 inches above the seat back, and so I thought the extended-height top lid section would not only add interior capacity and improve the aesthetic, but possibly aid the aero factor too.

I realize that any increase in frontal area is going to be a detriment, so I scrapped my original idea to have the tailbox lower edges come down around the back wheel axle area. Looks cooler, but would increase drag.

I have questions about how to join all these separate pieces of coroplast - I have plastic zip ties and Duck (Duct) tape. I'd use the tape only on interior seams that wouldn't show on the outside. Can anyone recommend a glue that works well with coroplast? Heat bonding a possibility? Please email me ( sbriggs@log.on.ca ) with ideas if you wouldn't mind helping a novice! Thank you.
