It's raining men! (28-01-2001) There are some rumours that Geri's first single might be a cover of a song called "It's raining men" by The Weather Girls... Special Report: How you gave them hope (20-01-2001) (thanks to B_Guano) The moving story of what happened to the money you sent to the children Christmas forgot IN DECEMBER we described how the charity Kids Company would be opening its doors on Christmas Day to neglected children. The centre, located on the outskirts of Peckham, South London, close to where ten-year-old Damilola Taylor was killed, proves there is a lifeline for needy children in the area. Following our feature, thousands of readers sent in letters, money and gifts amounting to more than £70,000. Several people also visited the children on Christmas Day, including singer Geri Halliwell who joined them for lunch. Here Kids Company founder Camila Batmanghelidjh and five of the children she has helped tell Lesley Gibson what a difference the support of the Daily Mail readers has made to their lives. John, 13, was physically beaten by his alcoholic mother. When he told a teacher at school what was happening to him, his mother rejected John and he was recently taken into foster care. He says: MUM never bought me presents or cooked turkey. She's never loved me and I think she was glad to get rid of me. I was born with a deformed face, so maybe that's why. This Christmas, I went to Kids Company and it was great fun. I got a new leather jacket and was also given a computer. I write poetry and hope to earn a living from writing one day, so I'm thrilled. It was so nice of Geri Halliwell to come and have lunch with us. She was really down-to-earth. WHEN GERI MET JOANIE.. (20-01-2001) (thanks to B_Guano) GERI Halliwell got the Hollywood treatment from actress Joan Collins when they met at an exclusive restaurant. It was their cue for a big show of affection, with hugs and air kisses all round. But it was just a brief encounter before Geri went back to her table with George Michael's lover, Kenny Goss. Former Spice Girl Geri flew to the US earlier this week to visit her friend George, who is recovering from back surgery. Back home, Geri was yesterday being tipped as a leading contender to be the next rector of Dundee University. TV magician Paul Daniels and comedian Fred MacAulay are also said to be considering whether to stand. A student union source said: "Daniels and Halliwell both seem to have cult followings among the students." Current rector Tony Slattery came under fire last year from students who accused him of not fulfilling his duties. Geri's 'New Radical' Album (20-01-2001) (thanks to B_Guano) Geri Halliwell has linked up with Gregg Alexander to co write songs for her new album. The former New Radicals front man has already written for Ronan Keating, Texas and most recently Rod Stewart since splitting with his band at the height of their popularity and Halliwell hopes he can repeat this success with her. Halliwell who is currently the highest earning British female in the music and film industry is presently putting the finishing touches to her second album in Los Angeles. Since quitting the Spice Girls in 1998 thanks to high sales figures from her debut solo album, three number one singles and her autobiography, plus tour profits and ongoing Spice Girls royalties Halliwell is currently pocketing around £8 million a year. It is rumoured that Alexander will collaborate with Halliwell on several new songs, though it is yet to be confirmed how many will actually figure on the final product. Secrecy surrounds the project and speculation is rife as to whether Robbie Williams will have anything to do with the song writing. The couple were spotted together on numerous occasions last year including a Christmas trip to Switzerland suggesting that they were writing together. Hoping to break the American market Halliwell has also turned to a management company for the first time since the sacking of Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller. Untitled Entertainment, who also manage Puff Daddy and Friends actor Matt Le Blanc will now look after her affairs. A source close to the singer explained "Geri likes being in control, but shes been advised that trying to look after herself in America would be suicidal". Finally, the former ginger one is also in the running to make an appearance at this years Brit Awards - singing with Westlife. The boy band has revealed that they will be performing a cover version of Billy Joels Uptown Girl, with Halliwell. Aside from the ex Spice Girl, Westlife fans can expect to see the likes of Jerry Hall, Liz Hurley, Cat Deeley and Denise Van Outen accompanying the boys on stage. Geri leaving on a jet plane...(19-01-2001) (thanks to Claudio) + pic SLIMLINE Geri Halliwell waists no time revealing her midriff as she leaves bitterly cold Britain for the sunshine yesterday. The ex-Spice Girl, 28, looked more ready to go for a stroll in California than freezing Heathrow - but then she was about to hop on a plane to Los Angeles. GERI IS TUM GIRL (19-01-2001) (thanks to Claudio) FORMER Spice Girl Geri Halliwell was wrapped up against the winter chill and looking ready for action in anorak and clumpy boots at Heathrow Airport yesterday. But the singer, who was heading for Los Angeles, seemed to be risking a chilly middle with her low-slung trousers. Either the artist once known as Ginger Spice is really hot stuff or she just can't bear to conceal the toned tummy she's achieved through hours of yoga Geri's Stars and Stripes (12-01-2001) Halliwell has joined forces with Untitled Entertainment who boast clients including Puff Daddy and friends star Matt Le Blanc to represent her interests across the Atlantic. The news of Halliwell's management deal comes as she prepares to release the follow-up album to her 1999 solo debut Schizophonic. After her Christmas break in Switzerland with pal Robbie Williams, Geri Halliwell is currently in Los Angeles, writing with New Radicals frontman and Texas and Ronan Keating collaborator Gregg Alexander. Geri Halliwell's decision to employ a management company follows three years of her managing herself since the Spice Girls sacked Simon Fuller in 1998. After leaving the Spice Girls Halliwell continued to mastermind her own career but her desire to break America seems to have sparked her decision to employ a management company in the US. The news that Geri Halliwell has signed with US managers follows last year's announcement that UK boyband Northern Line had signed with Jennifer Lopez's manager, Benny Medina. Halliwell's former Spice bandmates Melanie C and Mel B are also planning to spend much of 2001 in America to launch their solo albums but as yet there has been no information about whether they have similarly employed management companies to raise their profiles. Geri works with Gregg Alexander (11-01-2001) (thanks to Radiohead Girl) Geri works with Gregg Alexander Geri Halliwell is the latest star to work with Ronan Keating collaborator Gregg Alexander. The former Spice Girl is currently in LA working with Alexander on several tracks for the follow-up to her debut album Schizophonic. Alexander is the former frontman of the New Radicals. He worked on Ronan's Life Is A Rollercoaster and Texas's Inner Smile. Geri's album is due out sometime this summer. Spice rift has ended (08-01-2001) (thanks to B_Guano) GERI HALLIWELL finally ended her rift with ex-bandmate Mel B backstage at Saturday's National Lottery Show. Geri spent ten minutes with Scary Spice after arriving with Robbie Williams to see his flatmate Jonathan Wilkes make his TV singing debut. While the girls have met since Geri quit the Spices in May 1998, this was the first time they have taken time to talk. A show insider told me: "Geri insisted on being taken to Mel's dressing room and she stayed there for ages." But then Geri does have time on her hands - the script for her new film, Therapy, is being rewritten for the EIGHTH time. Filming, which was due to begin last September, is now unlikely to start until next year. New Pics (07-01-2001) +pics (thanks to VeryHalliwell) New single (07-01-2001) [RUMOUR] There's a rumour about a single in February, and another one in March called, The best moments we shared!! Snout and About (03-01-2001) SIMON WHEELER (thanks to B_Guano) ROBBIE WILLIAMS and Geri Halliwell clearly didn't make a resolution to give up the fags in the New Year. The pair were spotted sharing a ciggie during a quiet winter holiday in Gstaad, Switzerland - their second intimate break in four months. Robbie and Geri both jetted out to the luxury ski resort last Wednesday and saw in 2001 with a small group of pals. But there was no rock 'n' roll party - they celebrated in their hotel before returning to the slopes the next day. A close pal of Geri's said: "Despite what most people think, they are just good mates. "Robbie asked her to go on holiday with him and she said yes. Together with some mates, they saw in the New Year in a hotel room. It was all very low key." In August last year, the pair jetted out to sunny St Tropez in the south of France - sparking rumours of a redhot romance. Robbie later came clean, saying nothing had happened between them and insisting they were just close mates. However, the stars obviously enjoy one another's company, as just as in France, they were spotted larking about and sharing private jokes. But there were no scorching temperatures this time - just chill winds and lots of snow. GERI GLIDES INTO SWISS ROLE (02-01-2001) EXCLUSIVE By CHRIS HUGHES +pic (thanks to B_Guano) THEY'RE not quite in the Torvill and Dean league. But Robbie Williams and Geri Halliwell are getting on fine as they enjoy another intimate break. This time the pop icons chose the romantic Swiss ski resort of Gstaad, though friends said their main priority was simply to escape the pressures of showbusiness. One told The Mirror: "They just fancied a break and the Christmas holiday was ideal. "Robbie has been exhausted lately so he needed some time off. He asked Geri to go at short notice and she agreed immediately. They are having a great time." The last holiday they took together - in the South of France - led to talk of a love affair. That was six months ago and now they appear to be just good friends. But one of the joys of an ice rink is you can hold hands and even snuggle up, claiming you were worried about falling over. Former Spice Girl Geri, 27, in beige trousers and designer jacket, certainly looked less than confident. But 26-year-old Robbie, dressed in top of the range skiing gear, has clearly skated before and showed Geri the way. The pair have been staying in a friend's chalet and chilling out with Robbie's pals. They were wowed by Geri's new slimline look. Since her weight plummeted - thanks to a combination of meetings for compulsive overeaters, a new fruit and veg diet and daily workouts - she has been showing off her figure in body-hugging outfits. And between skating lessons she has been shopping for more in the exclusive boutiques of Gstaad. New album (28-12-2000) [RUMOUR] Ex-Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, is expected to release her new album next summer. Rumor has it that she will have a press conference in Early June to announce tour dates and the new album title and pictorials. Sorry, I'm taken (27-12-2000) Geri Halliwell was heartbroken yesterday after basketball hunk Steve Nash told her: "Sorry - I'm taken." Unlucky-in-love Geri - single for over a year - had been chasing the 26-year-old multi-millionaire for months. They shared cosy dinners together in America and she even went to his games to cheer him on. But poor Geri was wasting her time -the 6ft 3ins slam dunk hunk is smitten with stunning Canadian student Erin Hobin, 23. And Dallas Mavericks star Steve - who earns £150,000 a game and is worth a massive £20 million - told the former Spice Girl they could only be friends. One of his pals said last night: "She chased him but he just didn't want to know. "He made it clear he has a girlfriend and Geri's had to give up on him." The basketball star has been seeing Erin since August and pals say they are "very much in love". Sports-mad Erin is a student at university in Canada but is currently on work experience with the Vancouver Canucks ice hockey team. While Geri was trying to nab him, Steve joked that his favourite all-time movie was Spiceworld. And teasing team-mates once played a Spice Girls song over the PA system at one of his games. But yesterday he spoke publicly about Geri, 27, for the first time - and rubbished claims of a romance. The South African-born star said: "It was all news to me - and my girlfriend in Canada. "We had dinner a couple of times, with other people there, and she came to one of our games. I know it's corny and no one believes it when you say it, but we're just good friends. She's a very nice person. We have a lot in common." And his spokesman Bill Duffy also tried to downplay talk of a love match. He insisted last night: "Steve and Geri are just good friends. He has been dating Erin for more than six months." Even Steve's mum Jean, speaking from her winter home in Arizona, added: "Stephen is definitely seeing Erin. "Geri has become a friend - and nothing more than a friend." After receiving the brush-off Geri returned to Britain to spend Christmas with her mum. She also spent a lot of time at her £2 million mansion in Berkshire - a converted monastery next door to a convent. But the attempt to woo Steve marks another sorry chapter in her dismal love life. Romances with DJ Chris Evans and Italian romeo Giovanni Laporta have failed. Last year she was linked to Robbie Williams and they holidayed together in St Tropez. But they, too, turned out to be just good friends. Robbie even joked that the reason it didn't work out was because he's gay. One of Geri's closest pals revealed: "People think she has everything a girl could want, but what she really needs is someone to love. "Steve Nash would have been ideal for her because he's a nice, down-to-earth guy and understands the pressures of fame." His £20 million fortune dwarfs the former Ginger Spice's £13 million and he owns six houses across America. He also shares her passion for yoga. Geri's fruitless search for true love is in stark contrast to most of the other Spice Girls. Posh Spice Victoria Beckham is happily married to Manchester United soccer ace David. Scary Spice Mel B divorced hubby Jimmy Gulzar - but has now found love with hunky actor Max Beesley. And Baby Spice Emma Bunton and her long-term fella, Damage singer Jade Jones, plan to settle down and have children.
