Tears of A Clown
It seemed that he just lived his life
Like a puppet strung on wire
With a painted grin and laughter thin
And stupid clown's attire
You can stand there with the others
Watch while he puts on a show
But how he keeps it running
I'm sure you'll never know
For he has loved and laughed and lost
Got sidetracked by life's game
Now there's not much left to live for
Got no pennies to his name
His wife she took his children
His bank account and home
She even drove his car away
Left him broken and alone
Still every day he goes to work
Those motions he goes through
And he tries to hide behind a smile
But the emptiness shows through
He walks the street of shattered hopes
Full of pain and sad regrets
And if you stand and watch him
He's a wooden marionette
Sometimes he tries to love again
But his heart gets in his way
Like a silly clown with a popped balloon
He struggles every day
His tears he can't cry freely
Afraid the world will see
That his broken hearted lonliness
Saddens his friends like me
There's milllions more just like him
And some of them you know
They're all just clowns assembled
And they put on quite a show
Just laugh at them, if that brings joy
But I think you ought to know, sometimes,
Frowns are smiles turned upside down
So broken hearts won't show
