March 4, 1953: David's first wife, Kay Lenz, was born.

March 5, 1927: David's father, John Joseph Edward (Jack) Cassidy was born.

March 8, 1946: David's second wife, Meryl Tanz, was born.

March 19, 1998: Shaun's youngest daughter, Juliet Jones Diol Cassidy, was born.

March 21, 1973: The BBC  banned all teenybopper acts appearing on UK TV show, 'Top Of The Pops', after a riot following a David Cassidy performance.

March 25, 1972: David's second single in the US, "Could It Be Forever," was released. It rose to number 37 on the Billboard Chart, where it remained for two weeks.

March 30, 1991: David Cassidy and Sue Shifrin married in Spumante Restaurant at: 12650 Ventura Blvd., Studio City, CA 91604. That's actually right next to Encino, his old stomping grounds. Hello Magazine did a big spread on the wedding and reception. It's an Italian restaurant and the food is really yummy and the prices are very reasonable. The only annoying thing is that it's closed on Sundays. The magazine article made the restaurant look really big, but it's really a tiny place - maybe 30 tables and there's a small patio in the back. That's where the actual ceremony took place. According to Hello Magazine David had the swordfish. (Thanks to Amy S. from the David Cassidy chat list, who's eaten there 3-4 times over the past couple years.)

March 31, 1934: Jack Cassidy's second wife, and the mother of Shaun, Patrick and Ryan, Shirley Mae Jones, was born.

QUOTES:

"I live to throb"

In an AOL chat interview during American Gothic, Shaun got this following question:  "In today's New York Daily News, when discussing "American Gothic," the reporter refers to you as "Former Teen Heart Throb Shaun Cassidy."  Does
it bother you that you can't get away from that label?"

Shaun's answer:  "I live to throb."

(Thanks to Valinda from the Shaun Cassidy chat list for this one.)

THAT WAS BACK THEN...

ON THE BLOCK  SHIRLEY LEAVES THE NEST

It's big enough for the Partridge Family, but Shirley
Jones is flying the coop, selling the 7,000-sq.-ft.
Beverly Hills mansion (list price $3.45 million) she
bought in 1965 for $165,000.  The four-bedroom Cape
Cod she shares with her husband, producer Marty
Ingels, boasts a six-car garage, video arcade room,
detached guest house and a spacious balcony built to
enjoy the man-made waterfall by the pool and spa.
Recently reconciled after a six-month separation, the

the house contains memories of Jones' musical family.

Hey, guess what!?! We're back!!! This site has been gone for more than a week, my ID on Angelfire didn't exist. Starting to sound like a certain movie starring Sandra Bullock, eh? Anyway, I sent an e-mail to Angelfire to find out what was going on, and I received an e-mail back telling me this site had been banned, due to violations of their rules. Of course I appealed right away, as I couldn't understand what rules I had violated.

Finally, on March 7, I received an e-mail from them that said they could "neither defend nor understand the decision that was made to remove your page,  and I assume that the action represents an error on the part of our staff.  My apologies for the misunderstanding,  and the page has been restored."

So we're back, stronger than ever, and we can continue promoting David's concert tour and his upcoming projects.

While the online newsletter has been missing, I've been sending out e-letters, Newsletter issues 7, 8 and 9, to fans I know are regular visitors to this site. For those who have not received those, don't worry, all the information has been added to this page.

DAVID CASSIDY 2001 TOUR

ATLANTIC CITY SOLD OUT

If you weren't fast enough to order your tickets to the three concerts at the Showboat in Atlantic City on April 27 and 28, you can forget about it. Sorry! They were sold out in minutes. The early Saturday show and the show on Sunday were sold out within a couple of minutes. The late Saturday show had tickets available for about 20 minutes. And we're talking about year 2001 and not 1971!!! With ticket prices up to $125, that's incredible for a "has-been", isn't it (for you who didn't believe in David)? Someone at Ticketmaster even said "you Cassidy fans are nuts!" One word pops up in my head: CASSIDYMANIA! All over again!  For those who didn't get a ticket, David will be back in Atlantic City in November.

DON'T MISS DAVID CASSIDY AT THE FOLLOWING VENUES:

March 3-4 Harrah’s Shreveport,LA

March 8-9 Harrah’s Cherokee, NC

March 10 Foxwoods Casino, Mashantucket CT

The Springfield Union-News & Republican (Massachusetts) wrote on March 12, 2001:

Cassidy lures fans off memory lane
By RAY KELLY

LEDYARD, Conn.   —   For former teen idols, there is a fine line between pleasing die-hard fans and becoming a nostalgia act. David Cassidy walked that line at Foxwoods Casino for 80 minutes Saturday night.
Back on the concert trail for the first time in a decade, Cassidy's 17-song set combined sugary "Partridge Family" hits with reflective solo efforts and standards from his Las Vegas production "At the Copa."
Some in the near-capacity crowd at the 1,400-seat Fox Theater exploded into fits of hysteria not seen since 1971 when Cassidy's face dominated trading cards, magazine covers and lunch boxes.
The trim and still youthful Cassidy, 50, relished the attention of the women who tossed roses and handkerchiefs. ("Hang in there, let me soak this up for a minute.") But he appeared piqued as the whistles and comments regularly interrupted his stage patter. ("Get a life," he admonished a woman inquiring if he arrived at Foxwoods in the multicolored "Partridge Family" bus).
Backed by a nine-piece band and three backup singers, Cassidy opened the show with three selections from "The Partridge Family" catalog. "I Can Feel Your Heartbeat," "Summer Days" and "I'll Meet You Halfway" had some women screaming like it was still 1972 before Cassidy transported them to a much quieter 1998 with "No Bridge" from his most recent disc, "Old Trick New Dog."
A gracious Cassidy described the Fox Theater as one of the best rooms he has played outside of Las Vegas and repeatedly thanked fans for their enduring support before serving them another "Partridge" favorite, "Echo Valley 2-6809."
Cassidy successfully reworked two early numbers. A rocking "I Woke Up in Love This Morning" had far more edge than the bubblegum original and a horn-propelled "C'mon Get Happy" started as funk before morphing into a swing number.
With assistance from his "At the Copa" co-star, Candice Davis-Martin, Cassidy recreated four numbers from that production and demonstrated his evolution as a stage performer.
On his knees and whipping his arms about, Cassidy belted out a raspy "Try a Little Tenderness" before sharing the spotlight with the sultry Davis-Martin, who provided a powerful solo of "Come Rain or Come Shine."
A dancing Cassidy returned to center stage for "Mack the Knife" à la Bobby Darin.
He dipped back to his post-Partridge pop albums for "I am a Clown," "Rock Me Baby," "Lying to Myself" and "Cherish." The latter revealed that while Cassidy's voice has aged well, it has lost some of the youthful timbre that made that ballad so endearing nearly 30 years ago.
Cassidy ended his show with the crowd-pleasing "I Think I Love You," "The Partridge Family's" debut single and best-selling song of 1971. He returned for a moving encore of Johnny Ray's emotional "Cry."
Cassidy's experience in rock arenas three decades ago, coupled with his eight years in Las Vegas, have molded him into polished performer. With a stage style reminiscent of Neil Diamond in his prime, Cassidy pumped up the crowd and left them wanting more.

CONCERT REPORTS:

SHREVEPORT (MARCH 4)
by Suzanne from the David Cassidy Chat List

I just got back from the concert in Shreveport.  David put on an awesome show!! I had the most wonderful time.  It was especially great to meet and hang out with some of you from here.  I only have a minute so here goes.........

David looked so sexy!!  My friend (NOT a DC fan!) who was with me even commented how nice his butt was!! LOL  We sat on the 3rd row.  It was RESERVED seating, which I did not know until I picked up my tickets.  I was told by Harrah's on the phone it was first come, first serve seating.  I was glad I didn't have to tip anyone for better seats!  The first 2 rows looked like hi rollers...you could tell they were not fans!!  They all had VIP passes to a party in DC's room after the concert.  They just gave their passes to fans sitting around them since they were not interested in meeting him anyway.  The nite before, March 3rd, DC gave a concert for invited VIP guests only, so i guess most of them went that nite.  Good for us fans....we got closer!!

There were  2 very intoxicated women who made their way up to front row and would not stay seated.  One gave him her glass of wine.  He made a joke & took a sip.  They had albums they were waving in the air.  When he sat down on the front of the stage to talk to everyone they kept bothering him.....he told them to kindly sit down, this was his show and they already had their 15 minutes!!  He was very nice about it. But you could see he was annoyed. Security ended up taking them out a few times and I heard they got arrested!!

He also sang LYIN TO MYSELF, NO BRIDGE, MACK THE KNIFE and RIVER DEEP MOUNTAIN HIGH with  Candace*.  He came out first with a fine purple shirt & black pants. He sang...I CAN FEEL YOUR HEARTBEAT, MEET YOU HALFWAY, I WOKE UP IN LOVE, CHERISH, I AM A CLOWN, ROCK ME BABY, SUMMER DAYS, ECHO VALLEY 26809.  I loved it when he sang SING ME.  I had never heard him sing that song since the 70's.  (One of my favorites!)  When he sang I THINK I LOVE YOU I got caught up in the moment and just walked up to the stage, took his hand and sang ITILY with him!!!!  I still can't believe I did it!!  He smiled sooooo sweet at me and I just looked into his eyes....you had to be there!!LOL  A couple of others went up during the concert and gave him roses & a nice note.

When he sang TRY A LITTLE TENDERNESS & CRY....I thought I would just melt in my seat!!  He sings those 2 songs with soooo much emotion you can't help but feel it through your bones! OMG  He also sang a really cute version of C'MON GET HAPPY. He changed to a black/silver outfit about halfway through the show.  He didn't do the Johnny Flamingo routine.  I guess that's all for now.   I took about 10 pics or so with NO flash.  I took lots of pics with the friends I met and of the billboards & posters.  I'll post them if they come out.  I'm still on a David high, even though I had to come back home to reality!!  SIGH!!

~Suzanne

PS! Before the show it was announced, "NO video or photography due to a contractual agreement". But a short time into the show DC himself said, "Hurry & take your pictures before I get too sweaty!"  LOL  I took some pics with NO FLASH.  I don't know if anyone saw me, but no one told me anything.  I did see security warn a few that were using a flash.  He did not sing anything from Romance.  The songs were not exactly the same as the concert last month....so he must be making changes all the time so who
knows!

*) Candice Davis-Martin, who played "Cookie" in "David Cassidy At the Copa."  She also filled in for Sheena Easton a couple of times.

CHEROKEE, NC (MARCH 8-9):

Hey everybody!!! I had a great time in Cherokee.  Sorry I haven't written before, I've just been trying to catch up on the e-mail.  Well first of all, I thought we would never get up the mountains.  I'm used to flat land.  When we got to the casino at 4 on Friday we picked up our tickets, there was nobody in line yet.  So we walked around the casino and found out that the casino didn't sell liquor!!!  The casino is located on the Cherokee reservation and no liquor is sold there.  I can see why, the roads on the mountains were killer.  We found a hotel right next to the
casino and we just walked back over to Harrah's.  We got in line and went to our seats about 7:15.  When the concert started at 8:00, David came out looking absolutely GORGEOUS.  First of all, he started singing PF songs and then some Copa songs.  Scott (my husband) was laughing at some of the PF songs because he thinks they are too sugary sweet, but he was impressed with David's Copa songs and how he put on a very professional show and he really liked "Mack the Knife."  When Candace came out, that really got Scott's attention.  She had a very short, short skirt on with long legs.  David and Candace sounded so good together.  She also sang a solo.
David was so in tune with the audience. He danced all around the stage, he sat on the edge of the stage, and he sat on a bar stool.  He really knows how to get the audience involved, he talked to you like he was talking to just a few people.  He's amazing.  When David introduced
"Cherish", he said that was the most requested (by far) song listed on his web site.  He sang one song that I couldn't place but it almost made me cry.  It started out with his dad and mom and him on the beach when he was young.  Which song was that?  I also ran up to the front to shake his hand but didn't get to, it was jam packed with people, even guys.  But I did get to see him super close, so hopefully I'll shake his hand next time.  At one time someone was holding his pants legs and he said, "I think you want to take it with you, but can I have it back?"  He was very gracious, considering everyone was reaching everywhere for him.  I only got to take two pictures because security was so strict, which disappointed me.  All in all, it was a great concert, but too short.  I'm also wondering how in the world he got to Connecticut by 4 a.m. on Sat.by
bus if the concert wasn't over until after 9:00 p.m. in western NC. That's a long drive!!!!

Teresa

Hi All!
I got back home on Sunday form NC. I just now gettin' back to normal LOL... The good housekeeping fairies didn't clean my house while I was gone so I have alot to do!
Well, we like to not made it to NC. Everything that could go wrong did! We managed to leave at 11:00 am on Wed. We arrived at midnight that night. The next morning I called Kim (from my board), we met in the hotel lobby at 5:00pm that day. She is very sweet and her husband is a riot! It seemed like we have known each other forever! Anyway...we went on over to the casino and we were the first ones there. We ended up standing in line till they let us in the show room at 7:00. When we got in they sat us 4 rows back, and this was table seeting so we were far away ;-( We decided to ask one of the "big guys" there if we could get closer, and we did, front row far right side. David came out after the band did an opening tune. He looked really good and was full of energy dispite the trouble they had getting there and only 2 hours of sleep! He anounced at this show he has Cherokee blood in him. I think he said his great grandmother was Cherokee. That's something I did not know! He sang "Rock Me Baby", "I am A Clown", "C'mon Get Happy" (I loved how he did this), "Lyin To Myself", "Echo Valley", "Summer Days" (this was to DIE for!), "I Think I Love You", "Cherish". He also did some Copa songs. I'm know I'm missing some ,Kim... if you think of any more songs please add them. Candice did a solo and one song with him. She is beautiful and had a unique voice that complimented the show well. My husband enjoyed watching her. She was a good thing for the hubbys cause I think they felt left out till they seen her.The show ended and the meet and greet people were lining up to go back stage . I was so dissapointed I couldn't meet him. I had never met him before nor had I ever got an autograph. Kim and I decided to go out by the back door and see if we could get a glimse of him as he was leaving. The band was out there and we spoke with one of the girls and one of the guys. They were really nice to us. If ya'll read this, THANKS SO MUCH! We waited for quite a while before he finally came out. He walked out and said " Well ...Hello There!" So we walked up to him, me with my CD and Kim with her book to get an autograph. He kindly obliged. I have to say THANK YOU for this David, had I been in your shoes I don't think I would have been so kind. You have to remember, he was going on 2 hours of sleep and he just meet all those people for the meet and greet. I got a couple of hugs a hand shake and I kissed him on his neck! Ummm.... he sure smelt GOOD!  As we left he asked us if we would be back the next night and told us not to be so shy. We said goodbye and as we were walking away the band began to scream "Yah..!!!" and clap as to congratulate us. What a GREAT experience! I will always treasure the memory. Thanks Kim, I couldn't have done it without you! Best wishes David and thank you sooooo.... much!

FOXWOODS (MARCH 10) BY FIVE GIRLS WHO WERE THERE:

It was so amazing guys!  Simply amazing.  The best.  Better than Vegas, better than Atlantic City in September even!  Truly, truly --- just David Cassidy at his best.....singing, talking, laughing, telling stories.....it was fabulous.  Short of doing a show with only songs that HE
likes best, it couldn't have been any more HIS show.
And he looked......well, simply mind blowing!  He has gained a wonderful amount of weight....... he looks SO healthy and fit.  Just fantastic!  His face is all filled out again----not gaunt at ALL.  Nice rosy cheeks and NO PANCAKE!!!!! No pancake makeup guys!!!!  I cannot stress enought how healthy and wonderful he looked.  Really.  Being away from 6 shows a week has done WONDERS for him.  He wore his black pleated pants and let me just say that he filled them out QUITE nicely.  (That man STILL has an award winning backside. (Award winning!)  And his voice!!!??  OMG...I'll get to that, LOL.
Corinne picked me up at the bus station just as I arrived.  Ahhhh----Corinne. So wonderful to see you again and have so much quality time together. Wonderful.  As we drove around a bit trying to find our motel.....a very nice Best Western.....which we had a  bit of trouble finding (Could have been the DC music distracting us!  Almost missed a red light or two discussing various DC attributes!)
We did finally find it and check in.....quite nice.  Went to a great seafood lunch where we discussed all of you---and David of course---for a couple of hours.  Then we went back to the room to have a drink and blare some DC music and catch up some more and, of course, to get beautiful for David's appearance.
We got to Foxwoods Casino at about 5:15, picked up our tickets and met Lyn at 5:30.  Hi Lyn!!!  A very nice casino...didn't see too much of it as it was huge and we wanted to see what was going on at the entrance to the theatre. There were already 4 people in line so we decided we had better do that too as it was 'first come, first served' for the front tables.  Lyn was very
excited because she was going to the 'meet and greet' with David after the show.  The 2 hours or so until the doors opened went fairly quickly---talking to different people about David and their various experiences.  We had gotten table seats and the Foxwoods people we asked said we could ask to be moved up when they knew what was what with the high rollers.  Hooray!!  We ended up on the right side of the stage on the first table against the stage!  AWESOME
AWESOME AWESOME!
I have not seen David look so healthy and rested in 10 years!  He looked fabulous.  And his voice -------sometimes I would just close my eyes and it was as though I were listening to the finest recorded CD on the best speakers ever made.  He has never sounded better.  So rich.  A woman next to me who didn't know him as well as we do said she did not know that he had such amazing range----that he sounded extraordinary.  (I simply smiled and said "Of course.").  I cannot find the words to tell you, guys.......when he sang Cry as his final song, people almost didn't even clap a the end.....like clapping and screaming would have been sacrilegious.  There was this 'hush' over the audience because it simply was so beautiful.  His voice was simply extraordinary.
Corinne and I went in search of posters while Lyn went back to meet with the Man. (Her story.   ahh the envy!! LOL)  Success!!  We managed to snag two of the last ones!  (I'm looking at it now in a lovely brass frame I put it in as soon as I got home!)
He was great guys, just great.  Sang all the songs previously mentioned.....Sing Me, a personal favorite of mine....was to die for.  These concerts are the first time he's ever sung it live and it's simply wonderful. (I voted for it! Yeah!!!)  Aww and the view we had for his wonderful dance with Candace while singing River Deep, Mountain High.......sigh.....perfect!
(And, MAN what a difference a particular partner can make!!!!!!!!!!!!!)  Ahhh and Tenderness...... GOD I wish I was at that front middle table then! LMPAO!!!
Everything was just perfect.  I could go on and on, but it will all just sound the same.  I'll tell you guys, this is what the man was BORN to do. It's just ......it's just SO evident.  He has as much fun as we do (well, maybe not THAT much! LOL  I'm not sure he'd be too keen for ME to spit on HIM!!   Whereas I just ate it up...hee hee ....literally!).  He is so natural......he just talks and laughs.  He's a natural.  He told us how much he cares about us...numerous times...... that's always nice to hear.
Well, that's all.  Sorry it's so long but I'm on real high right now, LOL. (I'm screwed when I go to work tomorrow.....again, no voice!)  I had such a great time. My stomach is killing me from laughing so much and being so silly.  I absolutely cannot wait to do it again in April in Atlantic City!  I don't care if the tickets cost $300!  I will be there all 3 nights!  See you soon guys!

Janie

PS: The place was packed, ticket sales must be good and as long as he is singing something, anything, we're happy and we're gonna be there!  Since singing wonderfully is what he does best.....no worries! Janie

Hi everyone!!

I am so excited, I don't know where to begin!  I've only gotten two hours sleep in two days -- so I will try to keep it short.  The concert was fabulous. David looked the best he has in a long time.  He looked rested, sounded incredible and had a new royal blue shiny shirt that I had never seen before.  I know you all know that he sings Partridge songs, Copa songs, and new songs -- so I will skip that.  I had front row and shook his hand twice!!  The first time I pulled his wedding ring half off unintentionally!!  Now for the good part!  I got my backstage pass from
Robin before the show.  After the show, about 50 people formed a line to enter the backstage doors.  At first, Robin said, that David wouldn't have time for pictures with us but she changed her mind and said we could do candid photos with him but no autographs - he just didn't have the time to do both.  That's Okay -- that's all I wanted.  So David came out about 30 minutes later and thanked everyone.  He said that the promoter was so impressed with him, that they want him back.  Everyone in line was getting about 45 seconds to talk to him and then you moved on.  Then it was my turn.  I handed Robin my camera and turned to David. He held out his arm and put it around my waist - we were nose to nose and he had a huge smile, and I said I really enjoyed the show, David!!  He said thanks, I'm glad you liked it, I enjoyed it too!!  He then
patted me three times on my stomach!!  I almost died. We then looked into the camera as Robin took our picture.  My arm was still around him, and I said that your shows in Vegas were excellent too, David -- I loved them.  He then said, "Oh, thanks"  SWEETIE -- you come and see me again -- winked and had a smile from ear to ear.  I said, "I will"  as I shook his hand and left.  I just picked up my pictures and they look like they were professionally taken!!!  The
concert ones are great too even though cameras were prohibited.  The photo of us together is to die for. He looks so good in it.  I don't have a scanner so if someone wants me to mail it to them, they can scan it for everyone here to see at the DC chat.  Just thought I would share my great weekend with everybody.  By the way, it was nice meeting you Lyn, and I cant' wait to see you pics too.  Bye for now, Jen

Hi All!!!  OMG!  Foxwoods was such a blast!  David was even more gorgeous than I was expecting.  He has filled out a little, and in all the right places!  That man is so G-darn perfect!!!  Janie and I were just in absolute awe!!!  He either had the audience screaming, laughing or speechless in rapt attention.  He played us all like a fiddle.  He was his usual clever and quick witted self and sexy....OMG!  he just oozed sensuality all over!!!  I haven't laughed like this past weekend since AC!  Janie and I might be the only people who ever risked being asked to leave a hotel from playing DC CD's at 4:30am! No one complained about it so we assume it was enjoyed by all. I am so totally exhausted tonight!!!  I was ready for bed at 6pm!, unfortunately, this thing called a family thinks I should be with them! Go figure!  ROTFL! So, I am trying to wipe this happy smirk off my face...but memories of DC...keep bringing it back!  It's hard to act all parent and grown up like when you feel like a 14 year old again.  I keep remembering a little joke that DC was trying to tell..people kept interrupting him all night...anyway he's telling how they (he and the band) arrived at the Casino at 4am the previous night.  "We got out of the bus", he says and someone in the audience interrupts and says..."the Partridge Family bus???"   Well, he cracks up, as only he can do with THAT smile and says, "You really need to get a life!!!  You don't think that I still drive the Partridge Family Bus anymore, do you?!! "( He said they had a limo and a van actually,) It was hysterical!!! I probably ruined it with lousy telling, but you get the gist of it I hope!  Janie HELP!!  You are much better telling this stuff than I am!  Anyway, it was another DC weekend for the books...memories to be Cherished for ever!  Love, Corinne

Janie the description of the show was perfect, I couldn't say it any better myself. so I guess it is my turn to tell you about my meeting David, first of all David is the most down to earth person I ever had the pleasure to meet. I thought I would faint but when David came out to to meet us he was so easy going and because he was so relaxed being with us, it made me feel very comfortable being there. Okay here goes,The security was very tight they must have asked us to six to seven times if we had passes, we had to wait about fifteen minutes in total to meet him.  David didn't really have alot of time due to other obligations, but he told us how he appreciated our support over the years and that he loves us for caring,. I was about the 20th person in line to have my picture taken with David, he wore black pants and a black shirt . God he was gorgeous!! When it was my turn I went up to him and said hi and said that I have a gift for him and I opened up the box with miniature wooden guitars, that were hand made from the Gibson Guitar Co.He took one look at them and said to me" Are these for me?" and I answered yes and I also told him that I was a fan of his for over 31 years, and that he would always have a special place in my heart . Then Robyn took my camera and wouldn't you know the flash didn't work on my camera. I could not believe it, I said that's my mother's camera and now it is not going to work for me. So David looked at Robyn and said " Hey it's her mother camera lets take another picture. This time the flashed worked,a nd talking about being spontaneous Both David and I turned to each other and said YES! and we gave each other the high five!!! What a moment
I then gave him my card and letter and I had to  leave, God I love that man more than ever.

Lyn

Hi all - I had to respond to Janie's message.  She is SO right.  The best part was seeing how much fun David was having.  It was contagious.  And he did look great - better than he has in a long time. I don't know if he gained a bit of weight or just doesn't look so tired anymore, but he just looked healthy.  Here are some random observations: If the place wasn't sold out, it was very close to it, because empty seats were not visible.  Candace Davis Martin could have and SHOULD have played Ruby in Copa.  The back-up singers are now doing the high part of Lyin' to Myself, which works much better.  DC has a marvelous rich voice, and Lyin' when I saw him in AC, well, didn't show that. ;-)   I loved the jazzy intro he gave to each of the band members.  It was a song in which solos for each of the band sections were inserted. Does anyone know if he wrote that, or if maybe Lon Bronson did?  Finally, the DC experience can only be enhanced by having fun people at your table.  I really had a good time laughing and woo hooing with the gals at my table.

LAKE TAHOE, NEVADA (MARCH 30 - 31):

The concerts were great! Compared to the Atlantic City and Laughlin shows, these concerts were definitely more rehearsed and David played lead guitar on more songs than before. The set list was the same as in Tunica, Cherokee and Foxwoods. On Friday he started out with a shiny rust-colored shirt (same as other shows) and switched to a slightly sparkly black shirt midway through. On Saturday it was the same, but the brown shirt was purple instead. He bantered quite a bit between songs on Friday night and then didn’t talk nearly as much on Saturday night. In fact, he sang the first 4 songs in a row without stopping. After the 3rd song, some roadies came out and taped the set list to the stage – apparently, they’d forgotten to do that before the show – oops! David chatted a bit more with fans who came up to the stage to hand him flowers and notes. He asked their names and where they were from. He talked about a very special song that Tony Romeo wrote for him – one that he thought he outgrew, but now it seems to be very pertinent, and then he began “I am a Clown,” which got a few chuckles from the audience. As usual, fans rushed the stage during "I Think I Love You." It didn’t seem to matter to him that there were only about 20 on Friday and 40 on Saturday. He appeared to be just as thrilled to be there and interact with the audience. Although the audience was small (maybe 300 people) it seemed to me that from all the screaming there were just as many fans and fewer comped high rollers than the other concerts I’d been to. On Saturday night during "I Think I Love You," one fan actually climbed up on stage, stood behind him, and started rubbing his body all up and down while dancing. It was hilarious! Eventually, an usher escorted her off the stage and David said, “It was nice while it lasted.” Henry Diltz was there, moving around between the 2nd and 4th rows, and  sometimes crouching in the isle. Hopefully, we'll get to see some of the results in future ads and/or publications.

The new corporate rock
Big paychecks lure top performers to do private shows

By Steve Morse

They are the gigs that you never hear about except by accident. The Rolling Stones playing for Pepsi executives in a tent in Hawaii. James Brown getting down at a private party for Progress Software. Celine Dion crooning for Gillette. Bob Dylan singing for Applied Materials. And Elton John and Stevie Wonder entertaining guests at Swedish businessman Bertil Hult's recent 60th birthday bash in Boston.
In Colorado, Sheryl Crow, Hazel Miller and Big Head Todd & The Monsters played a birthday party for business-supply magnate Bob King at Wolfgang Puck's last summer. Donna Summer, Michael Bolton and Linda Ronstadt are among the other rock talents booked recently for local corporate affairs.
Private concerts for corporate leaders - once shunned by protest-minded rock stars - are an exploding part of today's soundscape.
"This is a multi-multimillion-dollar business," says Robert Norman of Creative Artists Agency in Los Angeles, who booked Wonder's Boston show.
Ever since the Stones took tour sponsorship from Revlon, Michael Jackson sold the rights to a Beatles' classic to Nike, and Bob Dylan gave "The Times They Are a-Changin'" to an accounting firm, the boundaries between pop musicians and major corporations have never been the same.
Nearly everyone, it seems today, has his or her price.
A few acts still refuse to play corporate events - Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Neil Young, and Phish are among them - but their ranks are clearly dwindling. The pay is too high for most entertainers to resist.
The money behind these events, which range from private parties to convention gatherings, is mind-boggling. No one is saying how much John or Wonder received for their Boston show - played before an intimate group of 550 people, including the king and queen of Sweden - but agents nationwide say that superstars like John, Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, Jimmy Buffett and Billy Joel typically get $1 million-plus for a corporate show.
Receiving $750,000 are Santana and Sting. Most other acts charge between $40,000 and $400,000, such as Summer, Huey Lewis & the News and Ray Charles.
This is more than they could make in a regular public concert, plus all expenses are covered, and there are no marketing costs.
"This is a very healthy business, but very private," says Norman. "These concerts are kept strictly confidential, primarily because of security issues."
"The ones who did these shows early (in the '80s) are still doing them - such as Neil Sedaka, Marilyn McCoo and the Temptations - but now you have the Sheryl Crows and James Taylors doing them, as well as younger bands like the Stone Temple Pilots," says Chris Burke, vice president of corporate events for the William Morris Agency in Los Angeles.
Burke began booking corporate shows 15 years ago. Today, business has quadrupled: to whereHe books 1,000 dates a year.
"Some acts shy away because they don't need the money, and some acts just don't want to do them," says Burke. "But the stigma is gone. These shows used to signify the end of your career - sort of like going to play in Las Vegas. But now both of those things are untrue.... many acts on the way up play (corporate events) and everybody plays Las Vegas."
Some private concerts are purely social, such as the Backstreet Boys playing at the bar mitzvah of a friend last year. But most of the concerts are for private corporations.
Elton John has performed for Anheuser-Busch, Steve Miller for Oracle, James Taylor for Hill Holliday, the band Bush for Miller Beer, Blood, Sweat & Tears for Fidelity (at the FleetBoston Pavilion last summer), and Crosby, Stills & Nash for WorldCom.
Rod Stewart, Willie Nelson, Sugar Ray, the Goo Goo Dolls, Los Lobos, Tony Bennett, Harry Belafonte, David Cassidy and Kenny Loggins have also plugged in on the corporate tab.
Yet while many artists play these events, not all seek them out. Fast-rising country star Lee Ann Womack says, "They're not always an artist's favorite kind of show. The pay is good, but it's not like you're playing for your real fans."
"You have to offer artists outrageous money to do them, because it's not an ideal performance setting," says Gary Bongiovanni, editor of the trade magazine Pollstar. "But these shows are getting better because most of the major promoters have gotten into them and brought in professional staging. So the artist doesn't have to worry about anything going wrong."
In Boston, the Don Law Company, now owned by SFX, has hired two staffers to focus exclusively on corporate shows. Denise Kirk and Kathy Lobdell, book nearly 150 shows per year. They're also starting to branch out internationally and soon hope to book acts for companies in London and South Africa.
"The intertwining of corporate interests and rock 'n' roll is continuing," says John Paluska, who manages Phish, one of the few bands that won't do corporate dates. "We've been asked to do them, but it's not the band's thing. It's just too weird for the band. For example, I got my wife into the Rolling Stones' private show for Pepsi in Hawaii a couple of years ago, but she was mortified by the whole thing. There were a lot of Pepsi executives talking over the music."
Some agents, though, say that corporate shows can get even wilder than a band's regular gigs. Says Burke of the William Morris Agency: "One of our acts, Kenny Loggins, just did a show where everyone was dancing on tables, including the president of the company."
The acts playing these shows still tend to be "squeaky-clean" as befitting corporate tastes, says Burke. The so-called "unpredictable" rock bands such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers (whose members are known for taking off their clothes) don't get any requests. Nor do most rap acts. "I've never had a request for a hip-hop act," says Lobdell of Don Law's office.
Classic-rock bands tend to be the corporate favorite - and there's even an ad hoc group, the World Classic Rockers, that only plays corporate gigs, about 50 per year. The group is comprised of past members of popular bands - Randy Meisner of the Eagles, Spencer Davis of the Spencer Davis Group, Denny Laine of Wings, and Nick Nicholas and Michael Monarch of Steppenwolf.
"I can't fault anyone for doing these shows," says Tim Collins, former manager of Aerosmith. "But it's definitely an indication of the shift in what rock music stands for. Years ago, rock was a movement and a spirit where you wouldn't think of doing this. In the early days of the Beatles and the Who, the whole idea was that you couldn't buy those acts. Now it's all about the money and the feeling that anyone can be bought."

David Cassidy going strong
Singer’s concert will mix old, new material

by Tim Greening

Any interview with David Cassidy is required, by law, to include the obligatory question: Are there any plans for a Partridge Family reunion movie or album, a la the Brady Bunch?
"No, no, no. I’ve turned that down many times," Cassidy said of the early ’70s television show that made him a huge star.
"I loved (the show) and what it gave me as far as my relationship with the audience. But fortunately for me, I’ve been able to do other things. The only reason to do something like that would be for money, and I’ve never made my decisions based on that," he said in a phone interview Wednesday from his offices in Las Vegas.
Cassidy will be performing two concerts in Shreveport this weekend, which will christen the just-opened Harrah’s Convention and Events Center. Though tickets to Sunday’s show are available to the public, his Saturday concert is by casino invitation only.
Those "other things" that have been keeping Cassidy busy include serving as producer of two simultaneous hit shows in Vegas, At the Copa at the Rio casino, which he also starred in, and The Rat Pack Is Back at the Sahara.
He recently finished his 15-month stand in Copa, a lavish musical, and will now focus on performing more concerts across the country. His Shreveport appearances will be his first with a reconfigured band lineup. In Copa he was backed by 21 musicians, at the time the largest "big band" in Vegas. For his upcoming concerts he’s pared that back to five horns, three singers and a five-piece rhythm section. It’s still a pretty big band, just not as big.
"It’s big, it’s bright and it’s strong, it’s great," he said.
Returning to his old material in rehearsals has been refreshing for the performer.
"I’ve been working a lot in so many different areas as an actor and producer, every time I come back to it, it’s almost like new material," he said. "I’m always like, ‘I love this song! I forgot about that one."’
Cassidy said his concerts will mix newer material, like songs from his 1998 album, Old Trick, New Dog, with his early hits like I Woke Up in Love This Morning and I Think I Love You, the best-selling single of 1971.
"I’ll be doing my old songs, and my real old songs," he joked.

David Cassidy draws fans from near and far
by Margaret Martin

At home in Las Vegas, singer David Cassidy is just a regular guy.
"I do the PTA and go to my son's basketball and baseball games," said Cassidy Sunday night. His son is 10 and his daughter is 14.
The city his family adopted 41/2 years ago is one of the few where celebrities live like perfectly ordinary citizens, Cassidy said.
He came to Shreveport to help celebrate the grand opening of Harrah's Convention & Events Center in the new hotel. Cassidy graciously shook hands with fans, posed for pictures and bantered with invited guests after Friday and Saturday shows.
Cassidy starred with actress-singer Shirley Jones in 1970 in The Partridge Family, a television show that propelled him to teen idol stardom. By age 21, he  was the world's highest paid solo live performer and his fan club the most popular in the world -- exceeding those of the Beatles and Elvis Presley.
He hit seven chart-topping singles, including I Think I Love You.
The fans remain loyal. They came from as far away as Mobile, Ala.
One who managed to obtain a guitar pick left the ballroom in tears.
Karen Waldman drove from Dallas just for the evening. "I've been a fan since 1971."
Miranda McCuller of Longview, Texas, received an unexpected invitation to the party that very evening, so wasn't prepared with autograph material. He signed the front of her white shirt.
SWEPCO execs Johnie Wise and Mike Madison shot pictures for people who unselfishly swapped cameras. Terri Madison, Maureen Gamble and Patti Wise squealed like groupies as Wise captured them with the star.
This was Cassidy's second trip to Shreveport. "I was here 26 or 27 years ago, but don't remember where I performed," Cassidy said.
Between shows, he took advantage of Harrah's Rose Spa/Fitness Center.
When he is not performing, Cassidy raises horses.

David Cassidy concerts kick off star-studded

At a casino, there are no sure things. Except for the concerts at Harrah's Cherokee Casino. Their spring and summer concert lineup is a certain winner.
Some of Harrah's biggest upcoming acts are yet to be confirmed. But the casino has announced some very impressive shows, starting this weekend with singer-actor David Cassidy, playing Thursday and Friday, March 8-9. Cassidy, of "The Partridge Family" TV fame, has moved way beyond that silly sitcom to become  a very capable stage performer. But he's sure to sing some of his huge 1970s "Partridge" hits, including "C'mon Get Happy" and 1971's best-selling single "I Think I Love You."

Cassidy brings show to Foxwoods

The image of David Cassidy imprinted on American pop culture may always be that of a baby-faced heartthrob crooning "I Think I Love You" and other pop hits to a gaggle of screaming teen-age girls.
But much has changed for Cassidy in the 27 years since he walked away from TV success on "The Partridge Family." He has starred opposite Sir Laurence Olivier in London's West End, earned kudos for his work on Broadway, and retooled a Las Vegas show into an attraction that drew a million visitors.
So it may be a bit of surprise that Cassidy, 50, recently embarked on his first concert tour in a decade.
"When I went out in September of last year and did two nights in Atlantic City and it was sold out in a day . . . it made me realize that there were a lot of people out there that still wanted to see me, thank God," Cassidy said in a telephone interview before the start of the tour.
"I really have fun doing it. It's not like I have been out playing this material to death and I am sick of it, I'm bored with it (or) it's just my job. I am really anxious to play a lot of the stuff I haven't played in so long."
Cassidy has scheduled the year-long tour to allow him to spend time with his wife, songwriter Sue Shifrin-Cassidy, and their 10-year old son, Beau — a far cry from the hectic pace of the early tours when Cassidy performed on weekend breaks from filming "The Partridge Family."
Before 'N Sync or the Backstreet Boys were born, "The Partridge Family" star was the cover boy for 16 and Tiger Beat magazines, selling 25 million records and supported by a fan club whose ranks dwarfed those of The Beatles and Elvis Presley.
For four years, Cassidy, along with stepmother Shirley Jones, starred in the ABC sitcom about the musical Partridges and their wholesome adventures at home and on the road.
Cassidy and Jones sang on the chart hits "Doesn't Somebody Want to Be Wanted," "I Can Feel Your Heartbeat" and "I Woke Up in Love This Morning," backed in the studio by famed Holyoke drummer Hal Blaine, bassist Joe Osborn and guitarist Tommy Tedescoe.
"These guys were legendary players," he said. "For me, to be playing with these guys and Hal, who is on every great Beach Boys record, the Mamas and Papas . . . he's an encyclopedia of great pop records."
By 1974, Cassidy grew tired of the role of Keith Partridge and wanted out.
"People thought that because I didn't want to go back and do it anymore that I didn't like it or I was bitter by it and I never was," he said. "I loved it. I just wanted to do other things. I never felt anything but love and respect for how good it was, for what it was."
The late 1970s and early 1980s were tough time for Cassidy personally and professionally as chronicled in his autobiography "C'mon Get Happy . . . Fear and Loathing on the Partridge Family Bus," as well as a VH-1 documentary and made-for-TV movie. Divorce, unemployment and a strained relationship with his father, actor Jack Cassidy, marked those years.
Jack Cassidy and wife Evelyn Ward divorced when David Cassidy was 3½ years old. David Cassidy said his father was a major influence in his career, but also described him as "extremely narcissistic and self-involved."
While the younger Cassidy achieved overnight success by the age of 21, Jack Cassidy labored for decades before becoming popular in the early 1970s with his television work on "Columbo" and "The Andersonville Trial."
"I know it killed him that he was so talented and had worked so hard and (fame) seemed to come so effortlessly for his wife, Shirley, and for me," Cassidy said. "Emotionally, he was very manic depressive and in those days they didn't recognize it . . . and he was also an alcoholic and that's a bad combination . . . a very bad combination."
"He was a wonderful actor and singer . . . all of that creative talent, genius (and) he had one foot in and one foot out of reality and that became very painful for him and for the people who loved him."
David Cassidy's relationship has been far closer with his three half-brothers, Shaun, Patrick and Ryan Cassidy. "We are one. They are my best friends, along with my wife."
Cassidy teamed with his brother Shaun in 1993 on Broadway for "Blood Brothers."
"Probably one of the highlights of my life was being on Broadway with my brother Shaun," he said. "It was so successful instantly for the both of us and it changed my life and his . . . It took me to the next plateau and people saw me as not just a pop star but as an actor and as a draw for ticket sales."
Following "Blood Brothers," Shaun Cassidy helped his brother renovate and reinvigorate the Las Vegas show "EFX." That 1996 show marked the start of Cassidy's Las Vegas success.
He followed "EFX" with two successful and critically acclaimed productions, "The Rat Pack is Back!" and "David Cassidy at the Copa," which teamed him with Sheena Easton.
Cassidy, whose last album was 1998's "Old Trick, New Dog," has inked a new record deal and expects to release an album at the end of the year in Europe.
"I am a very happy person these days," Cassidy said. " I am somebody who has taken a great journey and been dealt a phenomenal hand. And I love the fact that people who have cared about me, and I mean the fans, have always been there for me and I have tried to give them my best."

In next month's issue of Talk, Dr. Dre is seen in the studio trying to get Slim Shady excited about a sample from the Partridge anthems, "I Can Feel Your Heartbeat" and "I Think I Love You."

David Cassidy Pops In At Foxwoods Saturday
By ROGER CATLIN

It may be a coincidence that on the same night the Monkees play this market, David Cassidy also swings into the state for a show.
Like the Monkees, Cassidy was cast for a TV show but ended up as a pop star when he extended his Keith Partridge character on "The Partridge Family" to a solo recording career.
The TV show's premiere in 1970 got a boost when the Partridge Family's first single, "I Think I Love You," sold 6 million copies before the sitcom even hit the air.
Cassidy's solo career took off 30 years ago with a Top 10 remake of the Association's "Cherish."
But the more he tried to distance himself from the TV show, which lasted four seasons, the harder time he had, no matter what kind of impressive band he got together (including one with Mick Ronson. (Ronson was a guitarist-producer-songwriter who also worked with David Bowie, Bob Dylan and others. He died in 1993 after being diagnosed with cancer.)
Cassidy turned to TV acting and theater, most recently appearing in "At the Copa" in Las Vegas. But at age 50, he's back on the road performing his new and old songs, taking his cues from fan websites to choose which ones to perform. He's planning to record an album of new and old songs this year.
Tickets for Cassidy's show Saturday at Foxwoods Resort Casino are $38.50 and $55. Information: 800-200-2882.

At 50, David Cassidy still a song- and dance man
By EILEEN FISCHER

C'mon, get happy.
David Cassidy is. At age 50, the former teen heartthrob from the '70s series "The Partridge Family'' may no longer wear the shoulder-length Keith Partridge hair or those body-hugging jump suits, but he's doing what he loves to do -- entertain. (And he still has those boyish good looks and megawatt smile.)
In a recent mellow telephone interview from his Las Vegas office, Cassidy talked about his concert this Saturday at Foxwoods. He had only good things to say about his four years on "The Partridge Family'' and the 30-year career that followed.
"I have a great feeling [because] I've been able to do what so few people have done -- acting, producing, directing," said Cassidy, referring to his busy life since his phenomenal success at age 19. "It's been a great life. I love to entertain people. That's what I like to do. That's the most fun."
Bringing his show to Connecticut is like coming home for Cassidy, he said. After all, he lived in Ridgefield for five years before moving to Las Vegas four-and-a-half years ago with his wife, songwriter Sue Shifrin-Cassidy, and 10-year-old son, Beau.
Cassidy is the son of actor Jack Cassidy and actress Evelyn Ward so show business was in his blood. He has starred in several Broadway productions, including "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and in 1994 shared the stage with half-brother Shaun Cassidy in "Blood Brothers."
"It was unforgettable working with Shaun and Petula [Clark]. The whole experience working in the theater was so well-received by the audience," Cassidy said. "It's the last thing Shaun ever acted in. He's a successful television producer and writer now.
"I would love to go back to Broadway. I was born in New York and raised there until I was 11. My heart lies there," he said.
Like James Brown, Cassidy may be the hardest working man in show biz since moving to Vegas. In 1996, he opened at the MGM Grand in the $75- million extravaganza "EFX." In 2000, he began an 18-month run at the Rio in his own creation, "At the Copa," written with Don Reo. At the same time, he was producing "The Rat Pack is Back."
In 1999 Cassidy was voted Best All Around Performer in the Review Journal's Best of Las Vegas.
After closing "At the Copa" a month ago, he decided it was time for something different.
"I really wanted to go and do some concerts. I played some concerts on my off weeks. They were so successful and so enjoyable to see how people responded to my old stuff and my new stuff, I wanted to seize the opportunity," he said.
"For this show [at Foxwoods] I'll be doing material that will span 30 years of my life. From my early stuff to the most recent stuff from At the Copa,' " he added.
At the time of this interview, Cassidy was still working on the details of the Foxwoods show. He'll definitely play guitar and couldn't say enough good things about the fantastic musicians in his 13-piece band and his three back-up singers. Comparing their sound to Tower of Power, he guarantees the band will blow the audience away.
Before the tour began, Cassidy fans could log on to his Web site and vote for the songs they wanted most to hear. Topping the list were songs from his 1998 album Old Trick, New Dog, including "Ricky's Tune." Then there are tunes from his first solo album in 1971, Cherish, a chart-topper that sold three-million copies.
"Of course, I'm going to do some of my biggest songs like I think I love you.' I still like to sing that," he said. "Coming back to it is so great. Wow, what great songs these are."
Cassidy will be touring all year, appearing at various Harrah's Hotels across the country. He is scheduled to perform at the Westbury Music Fair in New York on Aug. 16.
Also, on his list of things to do in 2001 is a new record deal and the 2nd annual David Cassidy Day At The Races in Saratoga, N.Y., Aug. 4. Racing thoroughbred horses has been his secret passion for 25 years, he said.
"It's a great balance for me in show business," said the singer.
Son Beau seems to have inherited his parents' musical talent, said Cassidy, but will he follow in his famous father's footsteps?
"Beau plays around with piano and guitar. He's got a fantastic singing voice and a fantastic ear," he said. "I hope he enjoys whatever he chooses to do."
David Cassidy will appear at Foxwoods Resort Casino, Route 2, Mashantucket, in the Fox Theater, at 9 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $38.50 and $55. Call 1-800-200-2882.

Memories of Cassidy linger
By Susan Reinhardt

All night long, I waited for David Cassidy to call my house.
     He never did.
All morning and afternoon the following day, I waited for him to call my office.
     He never did.
     Poof.
There dies a girlhood dream that bloomed 30 years ago as the man with the feathered bangs and bird chest sang his way into the hearts of millions of us pimply, flat-chested girls.
The next day I made one final attempt to speak to him, leaving messages with his people to call my people. Not that I have any people, though he had a line of assistants blocking him like a moat.
You’d have thought I was trying to get a hold of Ricky Martin, which would be understandably difficult as he is in the prime of chick magnetism.
But David? Come on. He’s playing casinos, for goodness sake. Not that there’s a thing wrong with that, but…well, it’s not a stadium or a 40,000-seat arena.
In all truth, I never gave him much thought after about 1976, when Peter Frampton rocked our world with his permanent wave and double-live album. But when I heard David was performing last night and tonight at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino, well, it just rekindled that unrequited love.
I wanted to be part of that crowd of women edging toward 40 or beyond, those girls of the ’70s who grew weak-kneed and lovelorn every Friday night at 8 p.m. when David and the other Partridges would jam and lip-sync during their popular prime-time show.
Ask any woman, say 35 to 42, about David and she’ll remember. She’ll play the tunes in her head or even sing out the lyrics of such hits as his trademark song, "I Think I Love You," and "I Woke Up in Love This Morning."
We were the girls who layered those triple-platinum albums on our old crackly stereos. We carefully tore David’s centerfold from Tiger Beat magazine, taping love to our walls, along with pictures of his rivals, like that cutest of Monkees, Davy Jones.
Which brings me to one of the main questions I wanted to ask him, posed by my sister, age 37.
"How come David didn’t get his record plastered on the back of the Honeycombs cereal boxes? Was he jealous that Bobby Sherman’s was on the back? Or the Monkees’?"
When I told her David was in town, and that I might – just might – get to interview him, she was as unimpressed as if I’d just told her I was meeting Chuck E Cheese.
"So?" she said. "What’s so great about him?"
Nothing, I said. Nothing but nostalgia. Nothing but a chance to be young again, if only for an hour or two.

March 23, 2001: The Las Vegas Sun wrote: The Scintas have officially jumped ship. The four-member comedic family affair is scheduled to open at the Rio's Copacabana Showroom on April 12. As rumored, the date will indeed require a super-quick turnaround from their current deal at the Las Vegas Hilton. The show's last night there is April 1. And, a week of previews are scheduled prior to the Rio opening. I guess all parties are feeling comfortable with the new digs.
The Scintas' deal with the Rio will be lengthy. A spokesman for the hotel said that it was hoping for a "permanent" situation contractually and that the Scintas will "definitely be long-term." Good news for the Rio, especially following the nasty demise of David Cassidy's "At the Copa" with Sheena Easton.
This step up the entertainment ladder is right on track for the Scintas. They'll work in a bigger room with better lighting, sound and staging. Frank Scinta added, "We will have the opportunity to do more material, some never before seen in Las Vegas."
And these troupers are already making a charitable gesture. Ticket proceeds from the April 9 preview performance will benefit City of Hope. Tickets will be in the $25 range, about 10 bucks off the regular price. Call City of Hope at 933-3704.

Speaking of Cassidy, the songster recently paid a visit to his pals at "The Rat Pack is Back," revising his role as Bobby Darin. Cassidy frequently performed as Darin in the show's early days at the Desert Inn. When he's not on the road -- Cassidy quit "At the Copa" to hit the concert circuit -- he'll sit in with the Rat Packers from time to time. The tribute show is scheduled to stick around the Sahara for another year. (Kate Maddox's column)

Former teen idol Cassidy relishes new niche
By Mel Shields

David Cassidy has managed to fulfill one of an entertainer's most elusive dreams -- handling both career and family.
Furthermore, much of it is thanks to a corporation. Harrah's Entertainment was so impressed with Cassidy's "At the Copa" -- a combination of concert and Broadway-style musical that he co-wrote with Don Reo and that ran for 14 months in Las Vegas -- that it signed Cassidy to play throughout its 21 properties.
In exchange, Cassidy gets weeknights off.
"I've really had very little of a life," he said. "The time has come to take time for myself and for my family. The last six or seven weeks have been fantastic. I've taken care of many family matters. I'm going to Los Angeles to see my brothers."
Cassidy called recently from his Las Vegas office. He was late because he had to pick up his 10-year-old son from school. After the interview, he was going to attend the boy's baseball game.
"I wouldn't have been able to do that before. I was doing eight shows a week, 48  weeks a year," he said.
Still, the former "Partridge Family" member has hardly entered a Branson-style routine. He is producing "The Rat Pack Is Back," a re-creation of the old days in Las Vegas and a show he also co-wrote with Reo. In it, Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Bishop, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra are celebrating Sinatra's birthday on Dec. 12, 1961. The show is playing at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas. Cassidy had just signed another year's contract with the hotel.
The studio beckons as well. Cassidy should spend much of April and May there, recording for Universal Music, "the biggest in the world."
It's a pretty nice world "so far in this millennium" for Cassidy. He was brought in to MGM's "EFX" when star Michael Crawford didn't work out; he rewrote the role and starred in the spectacular for two years. He used that success and subsequent ones in Las Vegas "as a great springboard to go out and do a lot of dates. If not now, the opportunity may not be there for me in a year.
"We killed in Laughlin. We had the biggest weekend they had in 13 years in Atlantic City. We just opened Harrah's new property in Shreveport. I'll do some summer theater sheds this year. I'll do the Greek Theater. But mostly it's casinos. I just played at Foxwoods. I have really jelled. And you know what? It's fun!"
In the early 1970s, Cassidy was on the cover of every teen magazine in the world. He had been nominated several times for a Grammy Award and had recorded several No. 1 songs, including 1971's biggest seller, "I Think I Love You." He was starring, through coincidence, with his stepmother, Shirley Jones, in "The Partridge Family." And his international fan club was the largest in history, surpassing in membership those for Elvis Presley and the Beatles.
Cassidy, however, did not suffer the same fate as so many other teen idols. He grew up and entered into a variety of careers, performing on Broadway like his late father, Jack Cassidy ("Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat"), playing the West End ("Time" with Laurence Olivier and "Blood Brothers"), guest starring in television series (Emmy-nominated for the highest-rated "Police Story" ever, for instance), and catching the Las Vegas wave at the perfect moment.
"As far as live concerts go, I've moved in and out of them over the years," he said. "It isn't as if I've gotten tired of them and every few years I have to come back. I am so blessed right now. I've got a great band, 13 pieces. I've got great material. I've gone back through my whole catalog and come up with some things people won't expect. I sing 'Cherish' and those songs, but I've also got some early rhythm and blues and some Otis Redding."
Cassidy says he's always enjoyed the "show" part of show business, but not so much the "business" part: "One has to learn to live with that. I was playing golf today with Danny Gans and he said, 'David, as hard as it is to sustain this kind of life, don't you feel this isn't work?' And I have to agree. This is what I would do if I didn't get paid.
"It's not a matter of how much money you make. People who get obsessed with that are in trouble. That's why we have so many disposable careers now. People sell themselves short for the money.
"I'm an optimist. I mean, you have to be with my career. I've never gone out and changed my style to suit the times.
"I've had a chance to really evaluate (my life)," he said. "And I think I've got  a double E ticket. For that, I feel very fortunate. The highs have been incredibly high and the lows have been really low.
"When I returned to work, I specifically chose not to compete with my earlier fame. I always made sure that the work, not my potential income or fame, was the  primary reason I would choose to get involved in a particular project.
"Right now, I've exceeded the level where I was. I am just doing what I really want to do, and I hope to continue doing it before I drop."

David Cassidy performs at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Harrah's Tahoe; $42.50; (800) 427-7247.

Cassidy finds a home on casino stages

David Cassidy has grown by leaps and bounds.
Since his days as America’s teen idol while star of the “Partridge Family” television show from 1970-74, he’s had ups and downs, emotionally, financially and artistically.
But Cassidy, in his late 40s, is doing swimmingly, immersed in new projects.
He’s writing music with his wife of 11 years, songwriter Sue Shifrin-Cassidy. He’s enjoying his 8-year-old son, Beau. With partner Don Reo, he’s put together a show, “The Rat Pack is Back,” that is still running in Las Vegas. He performed in the semi-autobiographical show “David Cassidy At the Copa,”
In 1999, Cassidy released an album, “Old Trick New Dog.” He plays March 30-31 at Harrah’s Tahoe.
Cassidy has gone through some periods of adjustment since “Partridge Family” days. But these periods have matured him and given him a chance to establish himself in different areas of show business, he told the Gazette-Journal in 1999.
Having proved himself a successful actor and vocalist on television and after establishing himself as a stage actor in “Blood Brothers” and “EFX,” a major production at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Cassidy can look back at his days on “Partridge Family” with a new perspective. He has come to terms with the rocky times that followed “Partridge Family,” when short of money, he lost his ranch and saw two marriages fall apart.
Cassidy began to find work in theater, appearing in “Blood Brothers” and “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” on Broadway and in “Time” in London. He received an Emmy nomination for the television drama “A Chance to Live.”
“What people don’t realize is that my career actually started on the stage,” Cassidy said. “My parents were actors — my father (the late Jack Cassidy) was in 45 Broadway plays during his career. So I grew up with it. And I was performing in the L.A. Theater Company before ‘Partridge Family’ started.”
Cassidy was performing in the musical drama “Blood Brothers” in Toronto in 1995 when Richard Sturm, MGM entertainment director, contacted him to gauge his interest in taking over the “EFX” lead when and if Michael Crawford chose not to continue when his contract expired.
Cassidy flew to Las Vegas and took a look at “EFX.” He was impressed by aspects of the show but concerned about others. He felt the music wasn’t contemporary enough and found the treatment “dark.” He said he would be interested in the lead if substantial changes could be made in the music and story.
When Crawford was released from his contract early because of a groin injury, Cassidy rushed to Las Vegas after closing in “Blood Brothers” Sept. 7, 1997.
With help from his brother Shaun, Cassidy put in 15-hour days during the next few weeks revamping “EFX” with new music, a new story and new choreography. The revised show opened in early November 1997.
“It’s a very difficult show physically,” he said. “Before my contract expired, I knew I couldn’t renew it.” Besides wanting to move on to new projects, Cassidy needed foot surgery and was often in pain while performing in “EFX.” The surgery was successful but took months to heal, he said.

A star is reborn:
David Cassidy enjoys a record-breaking career
By Denise Sloan
Tribune entertainment editor

Commitment and an unstoppable spirit are what have kept David Cassidy going for 30 years of career highs, careers lows, and now again even larger career highs.
Not just as a teen idol in the “Partridge Family,” but during the ‘80s when Cassidy found himself broke, without a job and no prospects in sight, he never gave up.
Now back on top and named Entertainer of the Year in Las Vegas, Cassidy comes to the South Shore Room at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe for two performances, March 30 and 31.
Cassidy and Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. have entered into an agreement that has the star performing in all of Harrah’s 21 U.S. properties.
It’s an arrangement that has Cassidy thrilled because his life will return to somewhat of a normal schedule. And considering that he’s a husband and father, that should make his family very happy.
“Now I do four to six shows a month instead of eight a week,” Cassidy said from his Las Vegas home in a telephone interview this week.
“Now I get to be involved much more with my family.” Cassidy was about 30 minutes late calling at our appointed time, but apologized profusely. He was at his son’s baseball game which went into overtime. Beau is 10.
“His team lost, but he did a great job pitching. I’m really proud of him,” he said.
Cassidy closed his Las Vegas production “At the Copa” to take on Harrah’s offer and to pursue more projects he’s interested in.
“Two weeks ago I had 77 employees and in the end it becomes too much. I loved it but I needed to get off that bus,” said the 50-year-old.
“And it’s been five years since I’ve seen my son in a Halloween costume.”
When ABC cast Cassidy, who was 20 at the time, as its juvenile star in “The Partridge Family,” it launched a spectacular career. From television to recording and record-breaking concert tours, and from Broadway to Las Vegas production shows, Cassidy made his mark.
Hailing from a family of actors, mother Evelyn Ward and father Jack Cassidy, his fate as a performer was seeded at a young age. It was by coincidence that he wound up starring with his stepmother Shirley Jones in “The Partridge Family.”
Before the end of 1970, the year the show premiered, Cassidy graced every teen magazine cover in the world, had the No.1 selling single of the year, and garnered multiple Grammy nominations and won a Golden Apple Award. Over the next five years, his official fan club grew to become the largest in history, exceeding those of Elvis Presley and the Beatles.
His concerts sold out in the largest arenas and stadiums in the world, which led him to be the world’s highest paid performer at the age of 21. His records have sold more than 25 million copies worldwide and have been recognized with 18 gold and platinum recordings including four consecutive multi-platinum albums.
“Performing in casino shows allows you to connect with the audience and making people laugh and entertain them is what I love most,” he said.
“If you’re doing this for the money, you’re ultimately going to cheat yourself.”
As lead vocalist with “The Partridge Family,” Cassidy was responsible for seven chart-topping singles including “Doesn’t Somebody Want To Be Wanted,” “I Woke Up In Love This Morning,” “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do” and of course, “I Think I Love You,” the best-selling record of 1971.
It was in the 1980s that Cassidy’s star dimmed. Nearly broke and with no work in sight, he ran every day to keep his spirits up.
“When I returned to work, I specifically chose not to compete with my earlier fame,” he said. “I always made sure that the work — not my potential money or fame — was the primary reason I would choose to get involved in a particular project.
“I really believe that if the work is good, then all kinds of success and other good things will follow.”
Cassidy acted in the highest rated “Police Story” in its seven-year history, which earned him an Emmy nomination as Best Dramatic Actor. He then went to Broadway where he starred in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” then on to London’s West End in “Time” with Sir Laurence Olivier, and in 1994 he once again broke box office records in the production of “Blood Brothers.”
In 1996, Cassidy opened in Las Vegas’ MGM Grand in the $75 million extravaganza “EFX.” Under Cassidy’s direction and by entirely revamping the show, it became the most successful production in Las Vegas.
Within four months of opening, the show was voted “Best Production Show” in Las Vegas, and Cassidy was voted “Best All Around Performer” and “Best Singer.”
In 1999 Cassidy was again named “Best All Around Performer” in the Review Journal’s Best of Las Vegas. He was also chosen City Life’s “Entertainer of the Year” and was dubbed “Show Star of the Year” by Gaming Today.
Cassidy partnered with writer-producer Don Reo to create “The Rat Pack Is Back!” which has been playing to sold-out audiences in Las Vegas.
“ ‘The Rat pack is Back!’ continues because we just signed a contract for another year,” he reveled. “Each week it gets more and more successful.”
The show that takes audiences back to Las Vegas’s heydays is at the Sahara.
“I’m very proud of it. When you write every word and see it succeed, it’s great. I’ve seen it 50 times and tonight I’ll go in and perform as Tony Curtis and Jack Jones. It’s a cameo appearance that’s really a lot of fun for me.
“Jerry Lewis and Frankie Avalon have actually come up on stage and performed and the audience loves it.”
Although Cassidy is enjoying tremendous success today, there were many rough spots in his personal and professional life throughout the years, but he has always succeeded in keeping his perspective and sense of humor.
“I’m an optimist. I mean, you have to be with my career,” he laughed. “I’ve never changed my style to suit the times. I have always stayed true to myself by trying to sing about the human experience.
“And my life and lifestyle are more important to me than just making a lot of money,” he said wisely.
“There are things you have to sacrifice and after 30 years in the business “I’ve learned to have a balance.
Plus, I’m having the best time I’ve ever had, going to a lot of places I haven’t been to in a long time. When I come up to Harrah’s Lake Tahoe I’m bringing my wife and son with me and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Aside for entertaining, Cassidy has another passion: He owns numerous Thoroughbreds that race at tracks throughout the country.
“I don’t ride any longer because when I go to work every night, dancing and performing, I can’t do that with a cast on my leg, so I have to make a choice, and it’s my choice. I love to ski and love to ride horses, and will again someday. But for now, I breed them and race them,” he said.
So what is his ultimate goal?: “To win the Derby, “ he said without hesitation.
Cassidy performs nightly at 8, and tickets are $42.50. For reservations, call (800) 427-7247.

Shirley Jones Loses Luggage

NEW YORK (AP) - Shirley Jones is going on tour with a fashion exhibit, which, as it turns out, was no guarantee that her clothes would arrive in Manhattan when she did.
"I traveled in this outfit, slept in this outfit and you're getting me in this outfit," Jones told last week's kickoff luncheon with journalists and cable TV executives.
Jones, star of 1955's "Oklahoma!" and 1962's "The Music Man," wore a casual blue jacket and pants. The dressy navy suit that she'd planned to wear was packed in her luggage, which failed to arrive from Los Angeles.
She'll travel with American Movie Classic's "Fashion in Film-On Tour," which is bringing re-created movie costumes to malls in 12 cities.
The tour includes Jones' rust-colored gown from "The Music Man" and Grace Kelly's black-and-white dress from 1954's "Rear Window."
Jones will share stories behind the costumes and talk about their influence on the fashion world. The tour opens in the Natick Mall near Boston on Wednesday and will end in Great Lakes Crossing outside Detroit on May 5.

TEEN IDOL ORDERS A DOUBLE

Cassidy runs 'Agency,' signs 'Wilder' deal

By MELISSA GREGO,  JOSEF ADALIAN

HOLLYWOOD -- Teen idol-turned-TV producer Shaun Cassidy has joined the production of CBS drama pilot "The Agency" as showrunner and landed a drama pilot deal at USA Network.
Studios USA, where Cassidy has an overall deal, will become an exec producer of "The Agency," along with CBS Prods., mirroring the production relationship the entities have on the Eye's Saturday drama hit "The District."
CBS in January greenlit the pilot for "The Agency," about the men and women of the CIA, from Wolfgang Petersen and Gail Katz's Radiant Prods. (Daily Variety, Jan. 24). Pilot script was written by Michael Beckner.
Cassidy is the creator of "Wilder," which was originally developed for the WB for the 2000-01 TV season. He'll exec produce along with former Studios USA exec David Eick, who also has an overall deal with Studios USA. Skein will be produced by Shaun Cassidy Prods. and distribbed by USA Cable Entertainment.
Skein reunites Cassidy and Eick for the first time on a series since the 1995 CBS series "American Gothic," although Eick was the USA exec on the cable net's former Cassidy series "Cover Me."
"Wilder" is about a former teen idol actor who teams up with his younger cop brother to work as detectives.
Corin Nemec ("Parker Lewis Can't Lose") and Ashley Howard ("Bring It On") have been cast as the leads in the pilot.
"This is the kind of true escapist fare and well-written project that I talked about looking for when I first came aboard," Jim Miller, USA Network's exec VP of original programming, said of "Wilder," which is expected to draw somewhat from Cassidy's own experience as a former teen idol.
"It's the kind of subject matter that people try to tackle, and a lot of times the audience just doesn't believe it. But because he was there, because he understands that mind set -- the good and the bad -- the authenticity, the veracity of it all is just unmatchable," Miller added. (Variety, March 20, 2001)

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Teen idol-turned-TV producer Shaun Cassidy has signed on as showrunner of "The Agency," a CBS drama pilot about the men and women of the CIA.
The project stars Gil Bellows, Paige Turco and Ronny Cox.
Cassidy has also landed a drama pilot deal at USA Network for "Wilder," which he originally created for the WB for the 2000-01 TV season.
"Wilder," which is expected to draw somewhat from Cassidy's own experience, is about a former teen idol actor who teams up with his younger cop brother to work as detectives. Corin Nemec ("Parker Lewis Can't Lose") and Ashley Howard ("Bring It On") have been cast as the leads in the pilot.
"It's the kind of subject matter that people try to tackle, and a lot of times the audience just doesn't believe it," said Jim Miller, USA Network's executive VP of original programming. "But because he was there, because he understands that mind set -- the good and the bad  -- the authenticity, the veracity of it all is just unmatchable."
Cassidy, whose 1970s pop hits included "Da Doo Ron Ron" and "Hey Deanie," played Joe Hardy on TV's "The Hardy Boys," which ran on ABC from 1977 to 1979. His production credits include the shortlived TV series "American Gothic" and "Roar."

Don't expect the Hardy Boys to be on TVLand soon. They do not have a license for the show, and they don't have access to more of this show than they have been airing.

A STAR FOR JACK CASSIDY IN HOLLYWOOD

According to Michelle Montour from the Ryan Cassidy Site, she's organizing a auction with the proceeds going towards getting a star for Jack Cassidy.  She has managed to get ahold of Susan Diol and Susan has offered to donate some photos of Shaun for the auction.
She also mentioned that if there is enough interest for these photos, she would sell them outright instead of auctioning them off.  If you are interested please e-mail Val heart3300@home.com, and this information will be passed on to Michelle, this is no guarantee that the auction will happen.
The photos are a set of 7 candids that Susan took when she attended Shaun's concert back in the 80's. She has also donated some playbills from performances like Loss of roses and such, and she believes that the Mass Appeal playbill is autographed. This sounds like it's going to be an excellent auction, and should raise alot of money towards getting Jack a Star on Hollywood. (Thanks to Val from the Shaun Cassidy chat list for this info)

David and Sue married on March 30, 1991, but they've known each other for quite a long time. Here's an article from 1972 (Thanks to Beth from Austria for forwarding this).

Basically a crime story about a devious sect, this 1996 TV-movie sequel to the sci-fi series (1989-91) is also a study in interplanetary assimilation. Take, for example, the Newcomer Francisco family, now on Earth for seven years. Both parents work, teenager Emily (Lauren Woodland) worries about impressing boys, and her brother Buck (Sean Six) is going through Earthly adolescent angst. Buck finds an answer in a Newcomer named Jennifer (Kerrie Keane), a cult leader who offers a “road to enlightenment and peace”---that's also potentially fatal. Sikes: Gary Graham. Francisco: Eric Pierpoint.

Danny Bonaduce narrates a lighthearted romp through the 1970s that covers a decade of political scandal and polyester year by year.
Using archival footage and clips from TV shows and movies, such cultural milestones as The Brady Bunch and The Patridge Family are revisited, hot pants get another look, and the resignations of Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew are reviewed. Also remembered are discos, disco music and antidisco rallies; “blaxploitation” movies; and the summer in which “Jaws” scared people out of the water. Among those interviewed are Shirley Jones, Linda Blair, Cheryl Tiegs, Buzz Aldrin, Barry Williams and members of the Village People.

David Cassidy

David Cassidy recalls the highs and lows of his reign as a 1970s teen idol in this revealing documentary.
Behind the squeaky-clean image of the eldest sibling from TV's The Partridge Family lurked a party animal, recalls fellow musician (and golf pal) Alice Cooper. Cassidy recounts how his solo career grew after the success of the 1970 song “I Think I Love You.” Along with the thrill of playing sold-out concerts in front of throngs of adoring female fans came a rift with his father, Jack. “The more famous I became, the more my father resented me,” Cassidy says. Interviewees include TV brother Danny Bonaduce, real-life brother Shaun Cassidy and singer Petula Clark.

Shirley Jones and Charo have cameos in a fantasy sequence in this comic turn on tough love from October.
As the episode opens, Red has grounded Eric and Hyde after learning they've smoked pot. The restriction also extends to Laurie, so, says Eric, “There's an upside to this.” Kitty thinks that Red is being too strict, but her protestations fall on deaf ears as Red is convinced this is “good parenting.” As a prison-like pall comes over the house, Kitty imagines a happier, Brady Bunch-style scenario in which the Formans host their own variety show. But Kitty's fantasy falls flat when the boys decide to run away and become Partridges with guest star Shirley Jones.
