Chapter 24

"Excited to kiss me again?" Brady whispered, noting the way Mimi was reacting to his touch.

"Those other times were like non-kisses. Your kisses really don’t do anything for me," Mimi lied, trying to keep her voice as steady as possible.

"You’re saying you don’t feel anything when I kiss you?" Brady asked with a hint of laughter in his voice. "I don’t believe you, Mimi."

"Believe whatever you want."

Brady stopped his ministrations to look at her. "You hate it when I’m right, don’t you?"

"I wouldn’t know. It hasn’t happened yet," Mimi spat out. Now he was just starting to make her angry. She could feel her blood actually start to boil in her veins.

"So you really don’t feel anything?" Brady attempted to ascertain.

"I’d say it was pretty safe to say I’d feel less than nothing if you did it again," Mimi responded, realizing too late how challenging her words sounded.

"That a dare?" Brady breathed.

"No, it’s a statement of fact."

"I think it’s a dare."

"Please, you don’t have the brains to think," she said, venom dripping from her words.

"I don’t think it’s my brains you’re after," Brady murmured before he lowered his face to hers. The tip of his tongue skirted across her lower lip, causing Mimi to shake uncontrollably. Brady’s grip in her hair tightened, and he held her head still. Before Mimi could think to react, his lips were on hers, and he was kissing her as if he had been starving for the taste of her. Mimi decided to give as good as she got, and she threw her arms around his neck, pulling him closer. She was going to bring him to his knees before he discovered that hers had turned to Jell-O. She began kissing him as fiercely as he was kissing her. There was a noise – a moan, but Mimi didn’t know who it had come from – him or her. Him, she hoped. Her, she feared.

Brady had meant this kiss to teach Mimi a lesson, but soon found that he was the one being schooled. The intensity of his need for her was frightening. He kept hoping that just one more kiss would put her from his mind completely, but instead, it only made him want her more. She was like an addiction. He would get a hit, only to find he needed more and more of her to feel satisfied. Maybe if he just slept with her then he’d finally get it out of his system. But even as he thought it, a small part of him knew that wouldn’t be true.

Waves of feeling coursed through her body. She had no mind, no thoughts at all. She could only feel – feel the heavenly sensations of Brady’s hands on her back, in her hair, his lips on her face. Mimi felt like she couldn’t catch her breath as the kisses grew in depth and magnitude. They fed on one another – each responding to the other’s reaction. Brady was kissing her with an urgency she’d never felt before. Her entire insides were liquefying, and Mimi was certain she was going to melt into the floor.

"Mmmm," Brady practically purred as he finally broke the kiss, "You’ve been a very, very bad girl, Mimi. I think you should go straight upstairs to my room." Mimi shook her head negatively, still shaking from the encounter. If she went up to his room, she might never come back out.

Brady could feel the way that Mimi was trembling, and fought hard to control his own unsteady hands. Brady pulled his face back further and asked with a wicked grin, "Nothing, huh?"

"Yep…nothing," Mimi said weakly.

"If that’s your idea of nothing, I’d love to see what your idea of something is," Brady murmured as he continued to caress Mimi’s back with his hands. Mimi had as of yet to let go of her tight grip around his neck. "What do you say, Mimi? Come over on Friday night and spend the night again and show me what something feels like."

Mimi didn’t think she had the strength to resist him, or to say no to him any longer.

Brady sensed her resolve weakening. "I’m sure Shawn and Belle will go out. Come over to hear about their first date, and spend the night. We could order some pizza, have some sex. What do you say?"

Mimi pulled back as if Brady had slapped her. Have some sex? her mind screamed. And he was putting having sex with her on par with an extra-large double cheese pepperoni pizza? Was that all it was to him? Was that all she was to him?

She pulled out of his embrace, shoved him back against the wall and threw open the closet door to return to Belle’s room.

"Hey," Brady called after her. "What’s the matter? Don’t you like pizza?"

"Belle, don’t you think we should try and attempt to do some studying?" Shawn murmured, his lips on Belle’s cheek. They had moved from the floor to Belle’s bed. Shawn was leaning against Belle’s headboard, cradling her in his arms.

Belle shook her head no and sighed with pleasure as Shawn moved down to her neck. "There’ll be no studying for you today, mister."

Shawn pulled his head back as if shocked by this news. "No studying? Damn! Next you’ll be telling me I have to eat chocolate cake and sleep with a supermodel to get things done around here. How much can one man give?"

Belle dissolved into a fit of giggles as Shawn resumed nibbling on her. Belle became vaguely aware of their doll crying. She sat up quickly, knocking her forehead into Shawn’s. They both cried out in pain and put a hand to their forehead as Belle tried to locate the baby. She found it on her desk, and put its pacifier into the baby’s mouth. The baby was immediately placated. Belle picked the doll up, nestled it into her arms, and turned back to Shawn.

"Can you imagine this baby being ours?" Belle asked dreamily. "We could give it a good Irish name. Like Patrick. Oooh – if it was a girl we could name it Colleen."

"How about Sinead?" Shawn joked. "You know – ‘cause it has that whole bald thing happening for it."

Belle smacked Shawn on the shoulder. "Ow," he laughed.

"Be serious, would you?" Belle said while pouting.

"Belle, I am not even going to discuss having children with you right now. Children should be something that are discussed when we are much, much older, way, way richer, and far, far less stupid than we are now." Shawn took the baby out of Belle’s arms and laid it on the bed. He then quickly pulled on her hands so that she was lying on top of him. "Besides, I’m far more interested in finding out how to make babies rather than actually having one."

"Speaking of which," Belle sighed, while trying to ignore how her heart was doing somersaults, "I think we should talk."

Shawn let his head fall backwards. "We’ve only been going out for six hours and we’re already having ‘the’ talk. I should have known."

Belle pulled herself away from Shawn and sat back on the bed, facing him. "Shawn, I was always taught to wait until I was married to…you know…make love. I want us to go really slow. I want us to wait."

"You do realize that we are married now, don’t you?" Shawn teased as his fingers reached out to play with Belle’s hair.

"Shawn, I’m serious."

Shawn looked at Belle, trying to measure the depth of her conviction. "I will never do anything that you don’t want me to do." Belle looked into Shawn’s eyes and knew that he was telling the truth. Then Shawn sighed and continued, "Belle, I’ve waited for you for sixteen years. I’ll wait for you for the rest of my life if I have to."

Belle threw her arms around Shawn’s neck, pressing little kisses on his cheek. "How do you always know just what to say?"

"Brady charm, I suppose," Shawn said, his eyes twinkling. "You do know Belle, that once you go Irish you never go back?"

Belle smiled at him. "I never want to go back, Shawn."

"Me neither," Shawn said. "But Belle, if you want us to go slow…you should probably get off of me before I have a hard time controlling myself."

For the first time Belle noted how shallow Shawn’s breathing had become. She could feel his heart thumping quickly in his chest. It amazed her how little she had to do to make him react like this. She was also amazed by how tempted she was to draw things out, to see what would happen if she...

Belle pulled away. "Sorry."

"Don’t apologize. You didn’t hear me complaining, did you?" Shawn smiled.

Mimi chose this moment to throw Belle’s door open. "Okay – I’ve given you guys more than enough time to suck face. Could we start on this project, please?"

Belle gave her best friend a quizzical look. "What’s the matter, Mimi?"

"Nothing. I’d just really like to go home, and in order to do that, we have to finish up this project. We can’t do that while you two are busy swapping spit." Mimi sat down on the floor, roughly pulling notebooks and texts out of her backpack. Shawn and Belle exchanged glances.

"Okay, Mimi. Let’s get started on this thing," Shawn said. Shawn and Belle joined Mimi on the floor. Shawn opened up the packet in front of him and then sat on his hands. It was the only way to make sure that he kept them off of Belle.

"See what happens when you actually buckle down and work?" Mimi asked. "We’re nearly finished with the written portion." She stacked her papers together and tapped them against her schoolbook to straighten them out, and began putting her things away. Mimi looked up to see Shawn and Belle making googly eyes at each other again. She couldn’t get out of the Black household fast enough. "I should probably get headed home."

Shawn looked at his own wristwatch, surprised at how late it was. "I’ll head out with you, Mimi. My mom’s going to have a coronary if I’m not home soon. She hates it when she has to hold up the TV dinners for my sake."

"I’ll walk you guys out," Belle said. The trio headed down the stairs and Mimi immediately noticed that Brady was sitting on the couch watching television. Mimi went straight to the front door without so much as a glance in his direction and started out into the hallway.

"Hold up, Mimi. I’ll take the elevator down with you," Shawn said. Mimi shrugged to signal her nonchalance to what Shawn did, but stayed out in the hall.

"So…" Shawn said while pulling Belle closer to him, "Have any plans for Friday night?"

"Shawn Douglas Brady, are you asking me out on a date?" Belle teased playfully.

Shawn hung his head. "You caught me. I am asking you out. We could you know, go bowling. Watch a movie. Or maybe we can do something else together," he said with a naughty twinkle in his eye.

"Something else is good. I love something else," Belle sighed.

"Hey – who’s going to watch that baby for you while you guys go out? You’re not going to take it with you, are you?" Brady called from the couch.

Belle’s eyebrows furrowed. She didn’t want her first date with Shawn ruined by a doll crying. "We’ll have to get a babysitter. What about your parents, Shawn?"

"My mom has her hands pretty full with the real thing, Belle. I don’t want to add to her stress right now. What about your parents?"

"My parents have a standing Friday night date," Belle said as she started to despair. "What about you, Brady?"

"Seems like a waste to me to try and find someone else when you have a third person in your project that could watch the baby for you," Brady responded, unable to see Mimi’s face, but he was sure that she was furious.

Belle’s face lit up. "Mimi! You will watch the baby on Friday night, right?"

"Why do we have to watch the baby on Friday night? I thought this project was over on Friday," Mimi replied quickly.

"Weren’t you listening in class? Mrs. Morris said that we have to turn the paperwork in by Friday, but that she wanted us to keep the babies until Monday so that we’d have a feel for what it’s like to be a parent on the weekends when we want to go out and have fun. Please, Mimi? Please can you watch the baby for us?" Belle started to plead.

"Sure, I’ll watch the baby for you on Friday night," Mimi said. "I’ll watch it at my house."

"Is that a smart thing to do?" Brady countered. "Don’t you have a little brother? I’d hate to see your grade ruined because he got a hold of the doll while Mimi was going to the bathroom or something."

"You know, Brady does have a valid point," Belle said quietly, tapping her finger against her chin. Then her bright blue eyes widened. "Oh, I know! Spend the night here on Friday! You can watch the doll while Shawn and I go out, and then you and I can hang out afterwards. Brady can keep you company while I’m out."

"Why Belle, what a marvelous idea," Brady smiled.

Mimi crossed her arms and glared at Brady. He’d managed to manipulate yet another situation. She couldn’t say anything without alerting Shawn and Belle to the fact that there was something going on between her and Brady.

"Please say you’ll come over, Mimi?" Belle begged.

Mimi nodded her head in the affirmative. "Come on Shawn. The elevator’s leaving whether or not you’re on it."

Shawn gave Belle a quick kiss and rested his forehead against hers. "I’ll call you later."

"Love you," she whispered.

"Love you too, Isabella."
