Chapter 6
Something tickled his nose, Shawn's eyes slowly opened, they felt very heavy.
Everything was kind of fuzzy. As his senses cleared, he realized that Mimi's
hair was tickling his nose. Mimi's body was draped over him.
Shawn inhaled sharply as he realized that they were both naked.
Mimi mumbled, she opened her eyes and smiled at him. "Hi lover, I can't
believe last night happened. I am so happy."
Shawn looked at her wide-eyed in disbelief. "We, we..." He stumbled
over the words. "We slept together?"
Mimi sat up taking some blanket with her. "Shawn don't you remember?"
He closed his eyes for a moment, his ebony lashed resting on his cheeks.
"Shawn, we made love last night."
When he opened his eyes it was to see the hurt look on Mimi's face.
"Uh, yah, sorry Mims, I was just groggy and…" He attempted a smile.
Mimi let out a sigh. Oh thank goodness, I mean everyone always says the first
time is memorable, I'm so glad it was with you." Mimi verbally bubbled over
with exuberance.
"Are you, OK, I mean I didn't hurt you or anything?" Shawn asked
awkwardly.
"No, well I mean a bit at first but then ...." She smiled looking a
bit embarrassed. "Um Shawn , I know guys don't like to talk about this, I
mean the whole macho thing, but, well, you know, uh, what I mean is, was this
your first time too? I won't tell anyone, I promise." She looked at him,
her brown eyes wide.
Shawn's stomach churned, this was just too much. It was, or would have been if
he could remember. He smiled sheepishly "yah."
"Oh Shawn, we're like Romeo and Juliet, only with a happier ending."
She threw her arms around his neck. He slowly put his arms around her. What had
he done!
"Um, look Mimi, I better go and get home before they send out a search
party for me.
"Awwww, Ok lover." Mimi's lips closed over his.
He got up and put his clothes on, feeling very woozy. Mimi had dressed in some
sexy satiny thing and walked him to the door.
She smiled at him as he left and he heard her softly saying "I love you
Shawn."
He didn't know how to respond and he could see the hurt in her eyes when he
didn't.
As soon as he was out of sight of the house, he ran into the park until feeling
totally nauseous threw himself down on a park bench. He sat there hunched over,
with his head in his hands. "What have I done, what have I done."
He like Mimi as a friend, he'd never even considered a relationship with her.
The only girl he'd even remotely thought of in that way was Belle.
His head pounded incessantly. He got up quickly and ducked behind some trees
throwing up. He'd never felt so wretched in all his life. He didn't want to go
home although he knew his parents would be very worried about him. He headed to
Salem Place, digging some coins out of his pocket to buy a Gingerale. He hoped
it would ease his queasy stomach.
"Shawn?" He turned to find Belle standing beside him. 'Oh no not
Belle, how could he explain what had happened.'
Shawn looked awful, he was very pale. His eyes closed for a moment, almost as if
he was in pain.
Without knowing why, Belle reached up to put her arms around him. "Are you
OK?" His arms tightened around her almost squeezing the breath out of her.
"Shawn, what's going on?"
"Oh Belle, I've messed up so bad." His voice choked at the end of the
sentence.
"What did you do?"
He released her then pulling away. Swallowing heavily. He shook his head, too
overcome by shame and guilt to answer her.
"Shawn I'm sorry, I didn't listen yesterday, but I have time now."
"Belle I, I, I'm not feeling well, I really just need to go and lie
down." He glanced at her but didn't make eye contact.
This worried Belle as Shawn usually always looked one in the eye. He was very
straightforward that way.
"Why don't you come with me. It's a long story but I actually have a motel
room booked, it's for Brady, he walked out of the condo last night because he
was very upset and well I can tell you the rest later. He's at the hospital
right now getting physical therapy; he'll be there for a few hours at least. You
can come and lie down."
Shawn didn't want to go, he didn't want to be near Belle, knowing how she would
feel when the truth of what he had done would come out, but he didn't want to go
home either. He just wanted to sleep and forget about everything that happened
yesterday.
Something in Shawn's eyes made Belle want to hug him again. He looked like a
little boy that needed to be comforted, kinda of like Brady did yesterday.
"Come Shawn, let me take care of you. It's Saturday and I have nothing else
to do."
A small smile appeared on his face. "Why? Are all the stores closed and you
have no place to shop?"
"Ok stop it, I don't just live to shop!"
Shawn was very quiet all the way to the motel despite Belle's attempts to draw
him into conversation. Shawn opened the Gingerale sipping from it.
"Do you have that flu that everyone's been coming down with?"
"Yah, I think so."
Belle unlocked the door, "Ok hop into the bed, do you want some toast or
some herb tea?"
"No thanks, I just want to sleep. You don't need to stay with me."
"It's OK, I want to, just until you fall asleep."
He crept under the covers, the pillow under his head felt so good.
He remembered taking flue medication yesterday, why oh why had he drunk the
beer. It was so stupid. With that thought on his mind, an uncontrollable
drowsiness overcame him and he fell asleep.
"Shawn?" Belle whispered. Something was wrong with Shawn, Belle knew.
As he lay there sleeping, she watched him. She loved the darkness of his hair,
and the auburn shimmer where the light hit it. She also loved those remarkably
long ebony lashes. She loved his smile; it was always so genuine, without
pretense. She loved Shawn.
Mimi had gotten up, showered and dressed. She had to tell someone. She picked up
the phone. Belle had said she could go for Shawn, that it didn't matter to her,
so why not tell Belle. She dialed Belle's cell phone number.
