Chapter 21

We returned Jordan to her father at five o’clock complete with a pair of sunglasses, and a signed promotional picture, as well as a few Polariods of her with the Boys. Her parents were grateful that she’d enjoyed herself. We returned to the hotel, and tried to figure out something to do. Nick ran away to his Nintendo with Nicole in tow. I realized that it’d been a few days since I’d called my best pal Laura.

Now, Laura and I are complete opposites in everything but looks. She’s quiet, and very shy whereas I’m the first one to introduce myself. She likes to just sit back and relax while I make a complete ass out of myself daily. She’s also the one who, just laughs at me, and tries to stop me from doing things that I think up on the spur of the moment. Like when I went into the record store, and started to scream along to the song for the fun of it, or the time I bought leopard print tights, and tried to wear them to the Winter Formal Dance.

I asked AJ if I could use his phone since I didn’t want to pay the phone bill, and his was already pretty high. I sat in AJ’s hotel room as he flipped channels, and called my friend.

“Hello?”

“Hi, can I talk to Laura?”

“Sure hang on. LAURA!!! PHONE!!”

“Hello? I’ve got it mom!”

“Hi Laura, it’s Bobbi.”

“Hey, what’s up?”

“Well, you understand that I’m out of town right now, and I think I need to tell you something about the people I’m here with,” I said guiltily.

“Let me guess, you’re sitting in a hot tub, in Florida with Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys.”

“Close. But it’s AJ’s hotel room in central Ohio,” I said craftily.

“Alright, seriously where are you.”

“Well, I’m seriously where I say, but not for the reason you would think. You see we brought the Backstreet Boys here to congratulate Jamie on her graduation and we’re all still here. You know how for a few years I’ve wanted to hook Nicole up with Nick? Well, I did.”

“You’ve got to be joking!”

“Nope. Hookup central isn’t that right AJ?”

“Yeah, whatever,” he mumbled entranced by the episode of Bay Watch he’d found.

“Start from the beginning. How do you know the Backstreet Boys? Why are they in Ohio? Are you going to be a good best friend and bring them to see me?”

“Alright, one question at a time. I met them a while ago, when their bus broke down, and they had to spend two nights at my house, second, I brought them to see Liz because you know for a fact she loves Brian, third, what kind of a friend would I be if I didn’t bring them to Cleveland?”

“You know I love you sometimes Robin.”

“Everyone loves me. And yes, I have a swollen head. So, what else has happened in our little town?”

We talked for about an hour, and I decided that I didn’t want to kill AJ with the bill, so I got off. AJ had dozed off somewhere between Vicky and Joe’s break up, and Julie’s new job at the Paper.

“Hey AJ,” I shook him.

“mmmm…”

“I’m gonna go down and get my pj’s. I’ll be back, ‘cause I think Nicole wants to tell me all about her movie with Nick,” ‘what little she saw of it’ I though slyly.

“Sure whatever…the room key is on the dresser. I can’t guarantee I’ll be awake when you come back, but get me up ok?”

“K, I’ll be back to at least shake you awake.”
