Chapter 20

I walked a bit away from the group and called Kevin to come with me. He set Jordan in Brian’s lap and followed me.

“Are you single?” I asked.

“Yeah…. Why?”

“Can I please set you up on a blind date with my friend Stephanie. It’s the same Stephanie Jordan’s been raving about all afternoon.”

“I normally don’t date fans…” he said cautiously, “Most times they just freak, and run off to call their friends, or they just sit there and don’t talk.”

“You don’t have to worry. Steph isn’t like that. The only person she would call is me anyway, and she will keep the conversation going. She doesn’t shut up for anything.”

“Well, what do I have to loose?” he sighed, finally consenting to a date.

“Great! I’m gonna call her!”

I dialed the familiar number and waited for her to pick up. After about three rings, the phone was snapped off the hook, and sounded like it was juggled up to her ear.

“Hello?”

“Hi Steph, it’s me, Bobbi”

“Hey hun! Why are you calling at two on a Sunday afternoon? Shouldn’t you be doing something like homework?”

“Are you my mother? And no, for your information I’m off for a week. I’m calling to tell you that I have single-handedly set you up on a blind date with Kevin Richardson of the Backstreet Boys.”

“WHAT???!!!”

“You heard me.”

“Run this by me again,” she said disbelievingly, “A date with who? I think I mis-heard you.”

“You…. Date…Kevin Richardson…. Backstreet Boys….”

“Are you playing a game with me? ‘Cause if you are….”

“I’m not I promise,” I assured her. “Here, why don’t you talk to Kevin?” I tossed the receiver at him.

“Umm hi, this is Kevin.”

“Are you playing a joke on me? Because seriously Robin is known for how far she’ll go to get a laugh and is this isn’t for real she’s gonna get it this time.”

“No, this is in all seriousness. I really am Kevin, and I really am going to go on a date with you whenever you want to all right? We’ll be in town here for a few more days, then we got off to Cleveland for another week or so.”

“Well, count on the fact that I’ll be there in a week ok?”

“Sure thing. I guess I’ll be seeing you later. Here’s you friend again.”

“See? I wasn’t lying. Well since this is long distance, I’ll call you again tomorrow ok?” I said, realizing that I was ignoring the rest of the room, which was staring at me.

“Alright, see ya then.”

“Bye.”

“Bye.”

I hung up with an evil look on my eyes. This was going to be sweet. AJ seemed to pick up on my enthusiasm, and joined my look.

“You guys, AJ and Robin are cooking something up, and it can’t be good,” Howie only half-joked looking back and forth.

“What have I gotten myself into?” Kevin asked.

“I won’t do anything bad,” I said slyly, “I really don’t want to embarrass Kevin or Stephanie.”

“That’s reassuring,” Kevin said mockingly.
