Chapter 19

“Brian! Don’t leave yet!” the pastor’s little girl called.

“Please ignore Jordan, she’s a little hyper this morning,” her father said.

“Not a problem sir. I love kids,” Brian said sincerely. “So, which one is your favorite?” he said bending down to the little girl’s level.

“Kevin.”

“Do you want to meet Kevin?”

“Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!!!!”

“If I may borrow your daughter? I know four guys who would love to meet her.”

“That would be great actually, we needed a baby-sitter this afternoon. There’s something I have to do in northern Ohio, and she wouldn’t like the car ride that much.”

“Well, if you’ll give us your address, we’ll drop her off later OK?”

“Of course,” the pastor said writing their address on a sheet of paper.

In the car Brian sat in the back seat with Jordan. The little girl was giggling the whole ride back, but managed to pelt Brian with a barrage of questions about him, and the rest of the BSB.

“Is she your girlfriend?” Jordan giggled, pointing to me.

“No, just a friend.”

“Do you have a girlfriend?”

“I guess….” Brian said, not sure how to answer that question.

“Does Kevin have a girlfriend?”

“No, but aren’t you a little young?”

“Yeah, but my cousin isn’t.”

“How old is your cousin?”

“Twenty-four.”

“Really” What’s her name?”

“Stephanie, she’s gonna visit me sometime,” the little girl said happily, “She lives in Chicago.”

“I have a friend named Stephanie in Chicago. She used to have a crush on you Brian,” I teased, “But she’s moved on to Kevin. Just like Jordan’s cousin.”

“Am I really that disliked?” he joked.

“I love you Brian!” Jordan yelled throwing her tiny arms around his neck.

We pulled into the hotel, and Brian jumped out and carried Jordan inside. By the time I got up to the room Jordan had everyone wrapped around her little finger.

She was sitting I Kevin’s lap, playing with one of AJ’s many pairs of sunglasses. She was again telling them the story of her cousin Stephanie. They asked her if she knew Stephanie’s number, and she dais she did. As she rattled off the number, I realized that we actually talking about the same Stephanie.
