Chapter 8

The next morning, I was half awake, but not quite, you know the feeling. I was conscious of the world around me, but not part of it yet. Mom had walked into the room, and I heard her talking to another woman who, by process of elimination had to be AJ’s mom. I heard:

“We go on three ok?”

“Got it.”

“Two…. Three….”

At this point my blanket got torn off of me, and I was shaken nearly to death. I signaled that I was awake by groaning, and trying to roll over, but mom stopped me and forced me to stand up. I stood there in a groggy state, and as I looked to my left across the room and I saw the same look of half-recognition on AJ’s not-so-pleased face.

“Good morning,” I managed to get out.

“Eh…” was his response.

Coming out of me daze, I managed to inhale my breakfast of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal. It was soon time to them to leave, and there were good-byes all around.

“See y’all,” called Kevin as he stepped onto the new bus that was sent

“Bye. Thanks for taking us in,” said Howie, being his insanely sweet self.

“Umm…. Bye I guess. Hope to see ya around,” AJ said as he hugged Nicole and me.

“See ya Nicki… Bye Robin,” Nick called as Kevin pulled him into the bus.

“Bye!” Nicole and I called as they pulled away.

“Robin! I can’t believe what just happened!” she squealed.

“I know!! But, no one will ever believe us, we didn’t take pictures,” I said, “So let’s keep this a secret, and not tell everyone on the planet ok? I hope you are listening I am trusting you with a secret you had better not blab it like you do with most others,” I warned her, knowing her past record of told secrets.

“I’ll be good I promise,” she said.

“Ok, let’s go inside and clean up, we have school tomorrow”
