Chapter 2
Well I did my best to keep my cool, and realized to my horror that Nick Carter was the one who was unconscious. By this time, we had moved them into the living room, and Nick was on the couch, while the others crowded into the room for a better look.
I went over, and tapped the one sitting next to him on the shoulder, and deducted, that he being the most soaked had been the one at the door earlier. He looked up, and I just about melted into those beautiful brown eyes. We stared at each other for a good ten seconds before we both snapped out of it. He moved muttering something about his name being AJ.
I took a close look at Nick, and decided to call my friend Julie. She’s an aspiring doctor, and knows a lot about things like this. When she answered the phone, I could hear our friend Nicole in the background yelling about her phobia of tornadoes, and her tendency to overreact. (that’s what I say she was yelling about, she was actually just screaming and jabbering)
“Hi Julie. It’s me”
“What? You sound a little panicked”
“I am. I need to know what to do with a person who has been knocked out by hitting his head.”
“ Well, the only thing to do is to make sure they are breathing and their heart is beating. And then wait for them to wake up and then check and make sure their memory isn’t damaged” she said.
“That’s all?” I asked.
“Yup, that’s about it. Now, I have to go and calm Nicole down before she has an aneurysm.”
“Ok, talk to ya later then. Bye” I said.
“Bye”
I was relieved that we didn’t need a doctor. We all moved Nick to the guest room, and since Biran couldn’t walk real well, he offered to stay with Nick. After making sure Brian was happy, I went back downstairs to see what else was going on.
My mom was discussing the pros and cons of raising a child in Ohio as opposed to Florida with the lady who turned out to be AJ’s mom. Kevin and Howie were sitting on the couch, channel surfing, and AJ wasn’t in sight. That is never a good thing. I walked through the kitchen, and noticed the bottom half of a person sticking out of one of the kitchen cabinets. I knew by process of elimination that this must be the bottom end of AJ. I was tempted to slap his butt, but decided not to scare him just yet. I went over to the sink, and began to dry the dishes. When I let one of the cupboards slam, after putting a glass away, he looked up at me, and asked, “Where’s the flour?”
“Over there,” I pointed to a cupboard on the other side of the kitchen.
“Thank you,” he said with as much dignity as possible, because he was already scuttling across the floor in that direction.
“What are you making?” I asked.
“It’s gonna be a surprise,”
“Well, let me know if you want anything.”
“One thing, can I have a radio on, I hate to work without music” he asked. “and another thing, can you stay here? I don’t like having no-one to grumble to when I screw up.”
“No problem Just let me get my radio.” I said hurrying up the steps. More than pleased to stay in the same room as AJ.
I had forgotten that my “mega-tape” of BSB songs was still in the radio. It came on in the middle of “Anywhere for you” my favorite song. He just gave me a look, and hit stop. He asked for a good station, and I told him the one I listen to the most. We sat in comfortable silence for a while, as he cooked.
Kevin came into the kitchen, and asked if I had any good movies. I asked him what kind he wanted to see. He didn’t care, as long as it was a movie, without commercials. He finally chose Star Wars, and settled in with a coke, a blanket wrapped around his feet, and the remote. Howie was banished from the couch, and forced to sit in the chair.
