Chapter 14
“Now, what’s wrong here?” Howie asked concernedly looking back and
forth between AJ and myself.
“Mr. “I’m Perfect, Everyone Loves Me” here thinks I’m a bitch, as well
as telling me that I was stupid for wearing sunglasses indoors when he’s doing
the same thing!” I vented.
“Well, I can see your side, sort of…” Howie said, somewhat confused.
“That’s not how it went at all,” AJ said starting to raise his
voice again, “Little Miss. “Kiss My Ass Everyone” needs to take a lesson in
manners and respect. I’m older than her, I deserve respe--”
“You’re what, 20 or 21!? I’m 20, and don’t forget it! I may look young,
but I am a lot more mature and intelligent than your bleached-out brain can
handle!”
“You see Howie, now she’s dissing the hair too!” AJ cried.
“Both of you just calm down and be rational here!” Howie said
exasperatedly.
“AJ, Bobbi is a person too and even if you don’t like her opinions, she
has a right to them,” Howie said, giving me a look as I stuck my tongue out at
him like a two year old. “And Bobbi, AJ is both intelligent and mature, when he
wants to be, and doesn’t like to be insulted, just like the rest of the
population. Now, if you can’t be together without acting like you’re five year
olds, I suggest that you don’t antagonize one another by staying close. Bobbi,
why don’t you go down and find a nice guy to dance with? And AJ, why don’t you
just go over to the bar and have a drink to cool your nerves,” Howie said,
acting as if he were the kindergarden teacher and we were two unruly students.
“Fine, as long as Mr. Personality here stays away from me, I stay away
from him.”
“Yeah, as long as Miss. Bite-Your-Head-Off stays out of my sight I’ll
stay out of hers.”
With that we separated and didn’t speak again for the evening. I was
boiling. Whitney obviously had been listening in, because I came up to talk to
me when I came down the stairs.
“How did you manage to start a fight with AJ already? I mean you’ve
known him for what, three hours?” Whitney said.
“I don’t know, he’s just a jerk,” I could feel my anger rising as I
spoke about it again, “I don’t really feel like talking about it ok? I just
want to go home. Maybe Kevin will take me.”
“Alright. I’ll tell Brian you want to leave, and we’ll go too,” she
said walking off.
After looking around the room I saw Kevin sitting in the corner with a
beer. I went over and asked him to take me home. He said sure, and after
telling Nick that he was leaving came with me. Whitney, Brian, Kevin and I got
in one limo and headed for our apartment.
