Chapter 3
Whitney and I set off toward the Society’s underground meeting place.
It was part of the old, unused sewer system that the early members had blocked
off and made into a posh party place with several different rooms. Neither of us
has too much money to spend, so we don’t have a car, and most of our clothes I
either make, or we share. The dress I had her in was originally planned for me,
but that fell through so she got it. I looked around, knowing that this Brian
person would show up at any time. I watched Whitney’s face for any betrayal of
his presence.
The door on the far side of the room opened and I saw Whitney’s eyes
get big and a huge smile spread across her face. I followed her gaze, noticing
someone who just about fit the description she had given me earlier.
I nudged her, “Is that him?”
“The one and only,” she said.
“Well, why don’t we go talk to him?” I asked logically.
“Umm… let’s let him come to us…” she said, suddenly shy.
“No,” I said as smoothly as possible while pulling her in his direction,
“Let’s go see him.”
I pulled her across the room by the arm and as I neared this Brian guy I
noticed that there was a good-looking tall guy with him. The tall guy had dark
hair, and a brooding look about him. He smiled, so I could tell from his
teeth he wasn’t a vampire, but a warlock like Brian. Drat! I thought another
prospect bites the dust because he’s not a freaking vampire. Why can’t I date
outside of my group? I mentally whined.
“Stop that!” Whitney commanded. She was obviously in the mood to
read my thoughts, because I know that’s what she was talking about.
“Sorry. I’ll try to keep my own thoughts silent this time….”
“Anyway,” she said, “Let’s go see Brian I guess. I’ll introduce you to
them.”
“Good.”
“Hi,” she said shyly. The demeanor she had held just moments before of
domineering and authoritative was gone, replaced by the shy and quiet girl who
could barely string two words together in front of people she didn’t know all
that well.
“Why hello. Kevin,” he said turning to the man I had been admiring
earlier, “this is the girl I was telling you about. Her name is Whitney.”
“Hi Whitney,” he said extending a hand. He had the same accent as
Brian. I wondered if they were related, but my question was soon answered.
“Hey cuz, we need to ask Grandfather if it’s ok for us to take some time
off from our post to get to know these lovely ladies,” Brian said smiling at
Whitney.
“Works for me. Although, I think we need to learn your name also,” he
said looking directly at me with eyes that took my breath away. Green. How
often is it that someone so gorgeous has eyes like that? Not very.
“My name is Bobbi,” I said extending my hand, “but you can call me
whatever and whenever you want.”
“Bobbi, I think it’s time for you to calm yourself. Remember he’s a
warlock, you’re a vampire, I don’t think it’s allowed,” Whitney warned me
mentally. She’d been working on that talent for a while now, and I wondered
why she chose now to implement it.
“Hey, why don’t we get moving then? The meeting is about to start.
Let’s find some seats. Grandfather is going to talk,” Brian said herding us\
toward a row of chairs that looked nicer than the ones we had planned to sit in.
“OK. And Kevin?” I said sheepishly, “I’m sorry for um, saying
something so rude to you.”
“It’s alright. Actually it reminds me of something another of my friends
would say,” he said directing his attention to the front of the room, “He’s
starting, shhh…” A man obviously their grandfather strode across the front of
the room and cleared his throat at the microphone. We would have
announcements and concerns before the party began
