Sleep Eludes Her Still
The light dances around the walls,
Flickers before her bloodshot eyes.
Sleep eludes her still
Nonsense fills her ears and mind.
She closes her eyes one last time.
Sleep eludes her still
Deep within her soul,
She feels the sweet escape.
She breathes a sigh,
Behind closed eyes.
Sleep eludes her still
Toss.
Turn.
Will.
Burn.
It eludes again and again.
The light penetrates,
It angrily invades.
She faces another day anew.
Sleep eludes her still
She knows tonight will be
One of many more to come.
The light dances around the walls,
And flickers before her bloodshot eyes,
But the sleep eludes her still.
I suffer from insomnia. If I don't take medication to sleep, I don't sleep! It's frustrating sometimes. I was up one night (unable to sleep) and as daylight was breaking, I came up with this poem.
