The Muses Within

Forcefield of Friendship

Memories of what once was between us,
The veracity of what is to occur,
Haunting images drift within my soul
Of what we'll never be.

Shattered thoughts and broken pictures,
Pieces that no longer fit,
The puzzle of my life with you has been destroyed.
I can now see the truth so clearly.

The happiness that we once shared
Is really too far beyond repair.
I want to reach out and touch you again,
To lose myself in the rapture of your skin.
I want to feel you beneath my fingertips,
But I'm caught behind a force field of friendship.

Forced to smile when tears threaten to spill.
Forced to laugh when my body aches to cry.
I was made to love you but fate has lost its grip.
I'll forever dream of what we could have been,

What we could have had,
What we could have shared,
Somewhere deep inside, there's an ounce of hope
That fate's hand in love will find its way again.

This poem was written after a guy friend and I decided to be friends instead of carrying on with the relationship we had. I wanted things to be as they once were, but he was ready to move on and just be my friend.
