9th Grade PE

Day 2 of our Badminton Unit

 

1. Objectives (Specific, behavioral, assessable)

2. Anticipatory set:

(warm-up activity) Snake Run throughout gym, in and around each badminton court, stretching, sit ups and pushups

 3. Pre Set:

Today we are going to learn how to demonstrate the overhand clear, the smash and the drop shot in badminton.

 4. Content Development

·   Review the serve and have students partner up to quickly practice the serve

·   Bring students back in and demonstrate the overhand clear with partner and explain the strategy behind it.    

·   Students will partner up and demonstrate to the teacher and to each other, the overhand clear, while teacher rotates through the class and helps students individually.

·   Students come back in and teacher explains and demonstrates the smash shot, the teacher makes sure to emphasize the snapping of the wrist for the downward effect of the shot. 

·   Have students partner up to demonstrate to teacher and to each other, the smash shot, they have 15 x’s each.

·         Students come back in and teacher explains the drop shot and demonstrates it.  Then return back to their partners to practice 15 shots each before switching.

·   The students come back in and teacher explains rallying back and forth to each other, using all of the shots they have learned so far, for the remainder of the period.

 

5. Closure/Assessment:

·   Be able to demonstrate the overhand smash

·   Be able to demonstrate the smash shot

·         Be able to demonstrate the drop shot

6. Equipment: (for a class of 40)

·   Gymnasium

·   40+ badminton racquets

·   50+ birdies

7.   Protocols

·   Signals are stop and sit on the whistle and break on the word break.

8. Class rules: Please respect yourself, other students, the teacher and the equipment.  Gather, utilize and return all equipment. Students not demonstrating appropriate behavior will be asked to sit out and lose points. All other gym/classroom rules will apply today.
