SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE


San Miguel de Allende is the oldest city in the center of the Mexican Republic. Founded in 1542 by the Franciscan missionary Fray Juan de San Miguel. San Miguel de Allende is called "The Cradle of National Independence. In 1982 San Miguel became a national monument and historic zone protected by the Mexican National Institute of Anthropology and History. San Miguel is a colonial jewel that inspires, enchants visitors and invites them to stay and enjoy San Miguel Forever. The Magazine "Travel and Leisure's published in January 2001, selected San Miguel de Allende the 10th most desirable cities in their world's best value survey, and favorite city to visit. Conde Nast Traveler's November 2000 survey placed San Miguel de Allende as 12th most favorite city to visit in the whole wide world. San Miguel has narrow streets lined by adobe walled buildings, and abundance of fine restaurants and hotels, and most important of all, is home of a large and highly respected community of artists.
