By-Laws

History

• Founded in 1971 in Lebanon, PA
• Motto: “God’s Chosen Ones”
• Flower: Daisy
• First Convention - 1972 Meadville, PA. - 288 mothers attended out of 370 members.
• Executive Committee meetings were held immediately prior to and following convention.
• Prior to 1987 the hosting club at Convention gave a gift to state in lieu of money.
• Gifts included the flag, water goblet set, timer, name tags, candelabra and many of the items used by the Board during the business meeting.
• The Board Meeting was held in March prior to 1980. It was changed to November to allow all more time to plan for convention.
• A name change to include higher order multiples was brought up in 1996. It was discussed at the November, 1998 Board meeting and was defeated.
• Number of clubs fluctuates between 38 and 44.
• Number of members between 370 and 1701.
• 2 clubs outside of Pennsylvania asked to join – Weirton, WV and First State (became an official member in 1996) .

Ways and Means

• Was initially run by State
• State purchased jewelry, mugs, bumper stickers, etc.
• The first bars/dangles were sold at the 1982 Convention by State.
• Ways and Means Committee formed in 1995 to allow for greater selection of merchandise.

Lonnie Whitcomb Scholarship

• Started in 1974 in memory of Doris Whitcomb’s 13 year old triplet son who had been killed.
• The scholarship was started by Greater NE Philadelphia Club.
• Initially the scholarship was only for children, not for moms.
• 1984- 10 year anniversary of the scholarship – several awards given out for clubs who donated every year – Butler, Keystone and SHOPMOMs. Shenango Valley donated every year since 1978 when they joined.
• Discussion was held to limit the number of times an applicant could win.
• 1990 - $500 balance requirement.
• Decision that the number of scholarships would be determined by the amount of money in fund by November.

Research

• First Research project: Astrology and ESP
• Research that was performed by POMOTC was used by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
• 1980 – Use of sonar to diagnose twins was discussed.
• 1981- 396 members knew they were having twins — 324 didn’t.
