Lincoln's Birthday- While this isn't a national holiday
it is celebrated in many states in the US. It commemorates the birth
of Abraham Lincoln.
Washington's Birthday- Commemorates the birth of
George Washington the first President of the United States. I cannot
tell a lie there isn't much more to say about that one!
Memorial Day- Originally this day was called
Decoration Day, to decorate the graves of the Civil War Soldiers it
is now a day to honor all soldiers lost to war. It is also the beginning
of the summer vactioning season.
Flag Day- This holiday is celebrated
by proclomation each year. It is to commemorate the day the Stars and
Stripes was adopted as our National Flag. It's also our birthday here
at Gemini Cards!!!
Independence Day- This is the day the United Stated
declared it's independence from British rule. A great day to go to a
park and watch all the pretty fireworks in the sky!
Labor Day- This is the day we honor the working
man. This holiday was started in New York and was to honor the union
movement. Now it's the last hurah of summer, so take the day off and
get out to the lake and have a picnic before the kids head back to school.
Columbus Day- "In 1492 Columbus sailed the
ocean blue" and found the new world. This is the day we honor his
courage and fortitude for going against convention.
Veteran's Day- This day is to honor all the men
and women who are or have served in America's armed forces.
Thanksgiving Day- A day to give thanks for
the land of bounty American's have been given. Giving thanks through
a feast of bounty dates much farther back than the founding of America.
But we american's stuff a turkey that day and it's traditional to stuff
ourselves as well. Give thanks and pass the dressing!
