Welcome to the Angeles Crest Highway Elevations page!

The Angeles Crest Highway is a 66-mile long road that winds its way through the Angeles National Forest north of Los Angeles. It is a very scenic road whose elevation ranges in elevation from 1,200 feet in La Canada Flintridge to 7,903 feet at the Dawson Saddle Trailhead (Satellite Picture). If you plan to drive on the highway, it is best that you check road conditions as it snows every year, and you may also want to look into getting a National Forest Adventure Pass if you want to park along the highway. You can also look into the Wrightwood website or check on weather conditions in the city.

About this page...

This website originally began as a venture of sorts in February 1998 when I bought an auto altimeter from a local auto parts store. Naturally, I wanted to drive around Southern California to test the thing, so at first I tested it repeatedly using Cajon Pass. After ad while, that became boring, so I looked around on the map and I notice the Angeles Crest Highway. So I investigated and sure enough I 'discover' its high point of 7,903 feet as opposed to Cajon Pass' mere 4,259 feet. So on June 14, 1999 I finally got around to buying a camera and I drove up there to take pictures of the surrounding scenery and mainly the important elevation points along the freeway.
