• The trial began October 21, 1997
in the Stockton, California
courtroom of Judge Bob W. McNatt.
There was no
jury. Witnesses were called to the
stand by Rose Wendland, as
well as Robert’s court-appointed attorney, who, like Rose, argued that his feeding tube should be removed. The trial concluded December 9, 1997 when Judge McNatt ruled in
favor of Florence and
Rebekah, commenting that he didn’t know whether he was saving Robert’s life or sentencing him to life.
