I
thought the picture, thus far, was a little to barren. So I decided
to add a foreground, on top of the previous foreground. The figures
would now be in the midground. But we have to keep them the focus of
our attention, more on that later. I used the same 'digital ink' method
for these boxes as I did for the two figures, so refer back to them.
The image on the left shows the boxes as merely filled in with a color,
to help me tell them appart fromt the rest of the image. I then fill
in the correct boxy color, add the text, and Rotate it around. |

I add more shadows, via Gradients, to the boxes. They're somewhat backlit
here, since the light source is at the end of the alley, behind the
cats. A little trick I did to make the cats appear somewhat backlit,
as well, was to duplicate their layer, check the Preserve Transparency
layer option, and fill it all in with black. This creates a sort of
silhouette above the cats. I then blurred it to my satisfaction (not
very much, maybe 2 pixels), turned on the Multiply layer mode, and
decreased its opacity. Then I moved that layer slightly so that there
appears to be a sharp backlit shadow in places. |
