Parkmerced Residents' Organization (PRO)

Comments from concerned residents:

4/2002: Through your flier of April 20 we heard of the first time about the existence of the PRO. We might have become members, but since we will be moving in about a month, there's not much point in doing so. However, in your effort to collect information, I can say the following things. First, in our opinion the way Parkmerced is run is terrible. We have only been here a short time (since Jan.), but the front office does not seem to be able to do anything right. Virtually all paperwork needed tens of phone calls in order to receive copies etc., and it took hours when we moved in to get it all done, basically because the agent helping us had not much of a clue. Getting (small) things fixed takes about three calls and often more than one visit per item. Then, the courtesy patrol is basically worthless. Once I called them because of an unacceptably noisy party, and all you get is a tape. I've never received any call back when I left a message. (I now know that campus police and even the SFPD are much more effective.) Recently, the rear window of our car was smashed in an act of vandalism in the garage on Font and Arballo, and I have heard of at least three or four other vandalized cars. I would love to charge Parkmerced for the deductible on my car insurance that I now have to pay to get it fixed! The front office looks flashy, and they drive nice PT cruisers. It seems to me that money would be better spent on service, rather than appearances. Last, we are actually in one of the apartments owned by the SFSU Foundation (since I am affiliated with SFSU). My comments apply strictly to Parkmerced management, and not to the SFSU Foundation, which has been very helpful. I am glad that our rental contract is with them, ultimately, rather than with the owners of Parkmerced! Best regards, and good luck with representing the tenants of Parkmerced.

---------------
On Monday morning, June 4, 200l, beginning at 2:00 a.m., workers created a disturbance that continued until 5:00 a.m. A large truck beeped as it backed into the corporation yard to deliver pipes. During the time that followed, workers unloaded the pipes and woke us up. Our patio home looks out over the Corporation Yard. I am sure others on our side of Arballo (private 500 block) also were disturbed during the early morning hours. After the pipes were unloaded, workers operated power equipment (saws, lathes?) that made high-pitched noises until 5:00 a.m. This is not the first time materials have been delivered and unloaded while residents are trying to sleep.
