Dallas Trip 2002

Dallas Theological Seminary Visit
January 17 - 20, 2002

We spent a weekend in Big "D" visiting Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS).
We didn't feel compelled to take many pictures - Dallas is not the most attractive place in the winter.
But what the city lacked in external appearance, it more than made up for in friendly people, laid-back living, and an excellent seminary.

Dallas, Texas

Dallas Theological Seminary We arrived late on Thursday evening and checked into the very affordable Homestead Studio Suites, North Park Central. For only $20 per night we stayed in a very convenient and safe part of town. Friday was our campus visit to DTS so we got some much needed rest before our big day. To our surprise, traffic was really light going towards downtown this Friday morning.

We arrived early, met with the admissions counselor and went on a brief tour. All of the facilities at DTS are very modern and the classrooms are well-equipped for laptops and multi-media presentations. We went to chapel where Dr. Walt Baker from the missions department spoke, and then sat in on three classes after lunch. We were so impressed by the quality of teaching and approachability of the professors.

Friday evening we decided to have a nice dinner at Maggiano's - yum! On Saturday, we met with Charles and Pat Lee, old family friends of Ivan's parents. They took us to dim sum and showed us around Richardson - one of the areas we would consider living in. They are such a hospitable couple - we were truly blessed by them. The rest of the day we spent driving around Garland and Mesquite. We also visited The Galleria - a beautiful shopping mall with an ice rink in the middle. That night we took in a movie at the Plano 10 Theater - only $1.50 each (and 50 cents on Tuesdays). What a deal!

On Sunday we visited Dallas Chinese Bible Church - a large, non-denominational church with 3 congregations. We felt right at home there. The rest of the day was spent looking at homes in the Plano and Allen areas. We're so thankful that homes are so affordable there. We may even get to buy one if the Lord leads us to Dallas. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Big "D" and are praying about the Lord's calling to attend seminary there. We'll keep you posted!
