Welcome to my five day trip to visit Ivan in the Netherlands...
Known for its cosmopolitan waterways and red light district,
Amsterdam is certainly not where I would want to live or raise our kids.
But we stayed away from those seedy areas and took in the more beautiful sights and sounds...
A Dutch Clog Fit for King Kong
Memorable storefront clogs made for fun photo ops! Amsterdam is crowded with tourists from all over the globe and so the city is filled with souvenir shops and the like. We loved this humungous clog in front of the window - it reminded us of the matterhorn ride at Disneyland! Ivan surprised me with an identical pair when he came back from his training there (in a much smaller size of course).

A City Called Utrecht
A bustling college town with romantic canals for twilight strolling... We had some memorable, international meals here along the canal - great Italian and Indian food! The entire town is alive with young collegians hurrying about or strolling along with a cone of frites (french fries with great dipping sauces). It was a fun place to explore and relax.

Unique Freeway Scenery
And who can think of Holland without a windmill coming to mind? The only ones we saw were from the freeway but it sure made for some scenic driving! What a charming and delightful country!
