LEMU News for 2001Update- Oct 1, 2001 LEMU is endorsing Undersheriff Doyle in his campaign for Sheriff! LEMU donated $2,500.00 to the relief efforts in New York by unanimous vote of the board. Update- May 18, 2001 Lieutenants and Captains entitled to the uniform allowance through the county have been given conflicting information as to uniform costs at Inland Uniform. LEMU has been told to ask for the Department contract rate only to be informed that such requests will not be honored. There is an alternative. I have contacted Dave Jamieson, co-owner of Woodcrest Uniform and Police Supply regarding this issue. Dave has graciously offered LEMU members purchasing uniforms a 10% discount. We appreciate this assistance and want to inform the membership of this option. You need only identify yourself as a LEMU member and ask for the 10% discount. Woodcrest Uniform and Police Supply is located at 18885 Van Buren Blvd., #3B, Riverside, CA. (909) 776-0048 Update- March 22, 2001 2001-2005 Successor Contract The membership of LEMU handily passed the successor contract recently negotiated by the county. There were a total of five no votes tallied out of all the responses. Approximately 80% of the membership responded with their mail-in ballots. The actual ballot numbers are below. Yes No 213 – 98% 5 – 2% I would like to personally thank all of those members that responded to the mail-in ballot. Your LEMU board members and negotiations committee worked on this contract for the common good of all the members of LEMU. It is estimated that the contract will go before the Board of Supervisors sometime in April of this year. The LEMU negotiations committee would also like to pass on their hearty thanks to the Riverside Board of Supervisors for their support. LEMU Membership There are 298 current members of LEMU as of 03-22-01 (two are associate members). There are only 10 that are currently not authorizing dues deductions. PORAC requires that 100% of the membership must be members of PORAC at a cost of $5.00 per month. Those not choosing to sign up for dues deductions are not contributing toward this ongoing expenditure of LEMU funds. If you know of someone in this category, please discuss the matter with him or her or refer them to the LEMU board members. PORAC Legal Defense Fund Most of you have received the identification card forwarded to us from PORAC LDF if you have chosen LDF coverage. Those believing that they need representation should call PORAC LDF and obtain a case number. The member then contacts our primary law firm for further instruction. Our primary law firm is Lackie and Dammeier LLP, located in Rancho Cucamonga at (909) 484-1114. The 24-hour number for the firm is (800) 478-7643. PORAC LDF and our law firm both have web sites for further information. ylaws Update We are mandated by county resolution to provide Human Resources with a copy of our current bylaws. We are in the process of having them transcribed into MS Word to include the changes that were made as a result of last year’s ballot changes. We will make a copy available to those members making such a request upon its completion.
