Cockatiels were first seen in Europe during the 1830s, some 40 years after their discovery, but it was not until the 1950s that cockatiel mutations first started to appear. During recent years, cockatiels have built up a strong international following, with numerous colourd now established and new colour combinations continually being developed.They are neither noisy nor destructive and can be housed together or with other gentle birds. As pets they are one of the best as far as I am concerned.
Cockatiels breed year round, but it is wise to pull the nest boxes and give them a rest. Incubation period is 21 days and the male incubates from morning to late afternoon. Nestling will leave the nest in about 30 days.
