THIN MAY BE IN BUT FAT'S WHERE "IT's at"!! He had been on the bumpy Highway 5, for four and a half hours, and was heading to San Jose from LA. Listening to the Radio, the Station started cutting out, then he said he heard, what sounded like chickens clucking to music ?. then a deep voice came on and said, Hi friends this is Tex Williams and this is it, it don't get no better on KFAT GILROY CA. Well needless to say he never changed stations until KFAT's demise in 1983. and kept his dile tuned to 94.5 fm just in case it was a bad joke.

But no, it was no joke, it was just bad!. and many felt that way. Milpitas Mathew, said to me, when KFAT went off of the air, it was like as if his Mother died. KFAT was a lot of things to different people but no one needed a dictionary to describe it. KFAT bound People together, Bikers, Cowboy's, Hippies, Lawyers, My Doctor was a fathead, It was politicaly not correct,loose, always on the edge and most entertaining.

The superintendent of Schools Bob Infelise said he had received a letter from another School Superintendent in another district who complimented him on the wonderfull station Gilroy has. Infelise said he tuned in KFAT one night and heard some DJ late one night Cursing a turntable that would not work right. and used alot of Bad language. My persute of taste kept me listening he added. At a KEEN Radio concert in 1978 at the San Jose fair grounds Willie Nelson, Red Steagall, Fredy Fender, and other acts for a day of Music and fun, KFAT had a booth and was selling tee shirts and giving away stickers, i can remember a passed out biker laid out in front of the booth. And a young Hippie girl with a guy in a 20 gallon hat with quork screw whiskers on his chin i think where scaring away more people than would come to vist the booth, but they played better Country Music that KEEN did. I can still feel the presents of KFAT when driving through Gilroy or morgan hill, Memories start to come throught my head. It's kind of like where where you when Kennedy was shot, Many people associate KFAT with a moment in their life, good or bad, I will add to this as things come to me, but as for now enjoy the web site and vistit the many links and as i always tell Sherman and Cuzin Al, STAY FAT!! .Johnny Westurn 2000.
