Bern
(Bern and Biel/Bienne)
Bern

Some signals in the city of Bern don't have the familiar backplate with white stripe, so they might look like the signals you find in Germany or Austria.

The next photos are of a signal without backplates, that resembles the signals of Paris, but the bike signal is semi-independent of the motor vehicle signal.

Typical Bern signal without any backboard. About half the signals in the city of Bern don't have backboards.

Note the bike signal 9-head cluster, the left and right signal working independently of the straight-ahead traffic.

Note the bike signal, which works independently of the through-traffic. It's for bikes turning left, heading into the train station.

And now for some very old signal heads with yellow triangles. Note, back in July 1987 I saw signals like this in Chiasso (Ticino), but they didn't do the red-yellow phase back then. They were replaced by hollow arrows for red and yellow, and had the red-yellow phase included.
