They avoided Price but had to deal with Rolling Hills Prep. In the final CIF poll on 2-10-03 HCS was placed in the #7 spot. Socal Hoops only poll had the Patriots at #7. The San Bernardino Sun's Danny Summers has HCS ranked #3 in the Inland Empire for all Div III-V teams.

They finished in second place this year in the Agape League, one of the toughest leagues in Div V in the Southern Section of CIF. They were 8-2 in league and 19-8 overall. Special congratulations to senior Aja Ajanwachuku for making first team All-CIF for 2002-2003. We also congratulate AVC's Marcus Miller and Kevin Dillon for making first team. Girl's Road to Arco Arena Continues!

The 2002-2003 Hesperia Christian Varsity Girls are the Southern Section Division VA champions. Jenna Ratke was named the Div VA player of the Year and Coach Sally Ruisch was named the Coach of the Year by CIF, the La Times and the San Bernardino Sun. Congratulations also to Olivia Howard and Holly Hague for making the All-CIF first team and Nicole Fowler for maing the All-CIF second team. Congratulations are in order for Jenna for being named the Agape Player of the Year and Coach Ruisch for being the Agape Coach of the Year. Also congratulations to Erica Castro, Serena Creech, Nicole Fowler Jenna Ratke Holly Hague, and Olivia Howard for all making the All- Agape first team according to the San Bernardino Sun on April 10.

With effort and heart, they easily won the Agape League Championship. The San Bernardino Sun had HCS Lady Patriots ranked #2 in their Small Schools Poll. All of CIF's polls of 2003 has the Lady Patriots ranked number 1 in all of Div VA.

This year the Lady Patriots opened their 2003 playoff run against Desert Chapel and won 38-23. They next met Redlands Adventist and in the most exciting game in years beat them 50-48 on a last second shot in regulation by senior Holly Hague. They then went on to beat Valley Christian Santa Maria at Victor Valley College to get to the Div VA SS Finals at the Pyramid.

On March 8, 2003. the Lady Patriots showed true grit and determination in beating a scrappy, hard-fighting North County Christian Crusaders for the Div VA Southern Section Championship at the Long Beach Pyramid. And Coach Sally Ruisch was justifiably voted the Div VA Girls Coach of the Year, a well-deserved award for an outstanding coach.

The Lady Patriots opened the State Playoffs at home on Tuesday against a tough Escondido Calvin Christian. They jumped out to an early lead and then let Calvin Christian come back and had a tough match in the fourth quarter. The Lady Patriots persevered and won 48-40. Unfortunately, Central Valley Christian of Visalia with their stars, Nancy Vandertuig and Leslie Tos took on the Lady Patriots on Thursday at Hesperia and eeked out a win 56-53. The Lady Patriots held a lead throughout most of the first three quarters but toward the end of the third quarter the Cavaliers were able to take the lead for the first time in the game. In the fourth quarter, CVC held off a comeback attempt by HCS including surviving two last second three point shots by Olivia Howard and Holly Hague. It was a great season for the Lady Patriots and they will always be the Southern Section Div VA champions of 2002-2003. All of the girls played with great heart and determination all season long and should be so proud of their great accomplishments this season including their heart wrenching defeat in the Southern California semifinals to CVC.
