Game Review

In one of the best games of the season, HCS fought their hardest battle and won 90-85 in double overtime against top-ranked Antelope Valley Christian. It was a game of free throws and coaching strategy. Josh Hamilton had 34 points although none were more important than the shot he took at the end of regulation to tie the game up 68-68. The season's heart award has to go to Loren Barton, who came in with a badly injured knee but put in the best six minutes that any player has had this season scoring 19 points and generally wreaking havoc on the Eagles. Then it was Billy Hague's critical three pointer in OT and Trevor Wagstaffe's tieing free throw with 3.8 seconds left to send the game into a second OT. And it was Zach Howard's three pointer in the second OT that sealed the Eagle's doom. And one can't overlook Coach Dobyn's critical two timeouts with no time left that were used to ice AVCS' J'Whon James so that he only made 2 of 3 free throws in regulation. Mike Petersen and Sean Bayer played tremendously under the basket contributing to this critical win for HCS. This game was of playoff intensity and is how the rest of the season will go as HCS has the toughest playoff schedule of any of the 27 playoff teams. But only HCS and possibly Rolling Hills Prep and New Roads could successfully handle this kind of playoff schedule. HCS finishes the season with a piece of the Agape trophy and a 17-7 (8-2) record to go with their #6 ranking in DIV VAA. HCS opens the playoffs against either Boron or Liberty Christian on Friday February 20.

Game Preview
Hesperia Christian continues their quest to get a piece of the Agape League championship when they play host to Antelope Valley Christian, Agape's first place team. The Eagles have lost AJ Armstrong for the remainder of the season and that will hinder their offensive efforts. But they still have plenty of offensive threats which HCS must stop to win. Whoever has Romanique Talton must stop him inside the paint. The best way to do that is keep him out of the paint. Jeremiah Nurse, All CIF guard will pick up the slack for the missing Armstrong and is fully capable of doing so. Jullian Doster is also very capable of putting up points and will have to be guarded closely. The Eagle's bench is young and inexperienced.

Hesperia Christian has a unique opportunity to control their season's fate in their own hands. They will again have to play as intensely as they did against Apple. Can they do it? It is playoff time and all games from here on out will all be real tough battles. The team will have to be mentally tough and put it all out on the court every night until their season ends. The game plan for Apple was superb and hopefully the young coaching staff will develop an equally amazing game plan to get their first piece of an Agape Championship since joining the Agape League.
