When The Trials Come

When trials come, as come they may
Into every dear Saint's life,
God seems to say in His quiet way,
"My son, it is perfectly alright."

It's alright to hurt, and to shed a tear;
"O God why must it happen to me?"
But then be still and reminisce,
To those words before Calvary.

"Not my will but Thine," Jesus said.
How it hurt to go to that Cross.
"Not my will but Thine," My Savior said,
Oh how much less is my loss.

Lord, help me today this burden to bear,
Help me to heal and to pray.
Let it melt me and mold my life,
To be more like the Savior each day.

In times of suffering and loss, I'm always reminded of Paul's statement regarding athletes, "they do it for a material crown but we for a crown of glory." How sad it would be to face the hardships of life with no assurance that it all has meaning and counts for something.
