David Eddigs
Belgarionin taru
- Tämä oli oikeastaan ensimmäinen fantasiakirja jonka luin (pikkusiskon lahjottua minut 2 karkilla aloittamaan lukemisen). Kirjassa oli hyvä, mutta ärsyttävän ennalta arvattava juoni. Jo lähtö asetelma on aivan liian tyypillinen, köyhä maalaispoika joutuu lähtemään matkalle, jonka aikana paljastuu joksikin aivan muuksi kuin mitä on (Miksi kaikissa fantasiakirjoissa päähenkilö on hiukan hidasälyinen (tyhmiä ne on siksi kun ne ei koskaan itse keksi, että ne on jotain muutakin kun tavallisia maanviljelijöitä) maalaisjuntti?!). Kaiken kaikkiaan kirjan henkilöt ovat ihan mukavia (välillä tosin Garionin saamattomuus, Ce´Nedran lapsellisuus ja Polgaran määräilevyys alkaa ottaa päähän, mutta onneksi vain satunnaisesti) ja paikoin kirjassa on todella loistavaa dialogia ja tilanne komiikkaa. Silloin kun luin kirjan se kyllä teki vaikutuksen, mutta nyt jotkut kohdat vaikuttavat hiukan naiiveilta, luulenkin, että kirjan kohdeyleisöä ovat noin 12-16-vuotiaat.
Mallorean taru
- Suoraa jatkoa Belgarionin tarulle, tapahtuvat alkavat muutamaa vuotta Belgarionin tarun tapahtumien päätyttyä. Pää henkilöt ovat lähes täsmälleen samat kuin aiemmissa kirjoissa ja juuri mitään uutta ei Mallorean taru enää tuokaan (tosin lähtöasetelmassa Garion ei enää ole maalaisjuntti *aplodeja*). On melko ilmeistä, että nämä viisi kirjaa kirjoitettiin vain lisä rahastuksen toivossa, tarinan olisi aivan hyvin voinut jättää pelkkään Belgarionin taruun, sillä Mallorean tarua lukiessa alkaa tuntua, kuin lukisi aiempia kirjoja uudelleen, vain huikan eri sanoilla (kirjassa vedotaan jatkuvasti siihen, että asiat automaattisesti toistavat itseään, typerää).
Belgarath & Polgara
- Sekä Belgarionin että Mallorean taruissa keskeisinä henkilöinä olivat velho Belgarath ja velhotar Polgara, joiden molempien elämästä Eddings kirjoitti elämänkertateoksen. Kun aloin lukea Belgarathia yllätys oli melko positiivinen, kirja tarkensi niitä historian tapahtumia, jotka Belgarionin ja Mallorean taruissa oli vain mainittu ja hyvä huumori ja sujuva kerronta tekivät kirjasta mukavan lukea (vaikka sivuja kirjasesta löytyikin reippaasti yli 800). Myös Polgaran oli kirjana hyvä, tosin sitä en koskaan saanut luettua puoliväliä pidemmälle, tämä johtui ehkä siitä, että oli pakko lopettaa lukeminen ylä-asteen viimeisten kokeiden takia ja kun taas oli aikaa alkaa lukea olin hiukan tainnut jo kasvaa yli Eddingsistä ja Polgara ei kuitenkaan voinut enää tarjota mitään uutta. Se kertoi samoista historian tapahtumista kuin Belgarathkin ainoastaan eri ihmisen näkökulmasta.
