Troop A Newsletter May -June 2003 ~*~*~*~ Back to Troop A main

Think back to May 31. One hot Saturday, but for many of us our first show. I would first like to say congratulations to all of the people in our troop. We got 7th place, which I am very happy about. I hope you all had as much fun as I did. Regimental shows are very hard.   First I would like to say congratulations to all of the people who placed in our equitation classes!  The following are the names and rank of the members who received ribbons in equitation:

J Trpr. Vanderzalm – 4th

J Tfc.  Cleek -8th

J Crp. Shelley  - 7th

J Capt. Sonntag  - 2nd

J 1st Lt. Swanson – 3rd

Game Night

By: Corp. Sidell

Well, to celebrate our job well done in the show, Cpl. Sidell and TFC Harris did Troop A, a favor and planned game night.  To start the night off, each member in Troop A got a chance to call out 2 commands. Then, we all played the boot game; although we didn’t really take off our boots. Cpl. Sidell's team took the lead and the game ended with an almost collision between Sgt. Sage and TFC Cleek, although Cpl. Sidell‘s team did win.  Of course, we had to play a game of egguitation. Everyone did really well, especially anyone riding Spur!  Some of us just practiced equitation even if we had dropped our spoons. We played a short round of Red Light, Green Light. Everyone then did some loping. Pretty soon, the horses were pooped and well, it was time to head back.  Everyone had tons of fun and we are all looking forward to more game nights. Thanks Cpl. Sidell and TFC Harris!

Also, thanks to Captain Sonntag who made us very special ribbons, they were very much appreciated.

Promotions

By: TFC Harris

I would like to recognize a few people in troop A who have recently been promoted. Remember all those long nights when our troop was practicing hard for the show?  Well there was one trooper who was really working hard riding as a acting TFC.  Finally, a few weeks before the show Trooper Marissa Cleek was promoted to TFC Marissa Cleek.

Our next two promotions were well deserved.  After all the troops have finished drilling and all the equitation class are done we move to the awards.  Before each troop is presented with their place and ribbons, promotions are announced.   In light of the sad news about Captain Lynch leaving our troop, two great officers were promoted.  2nd Lt. Kathleen Swanson was promoted to 1st Lt. and taking the place of Commanding Officer of troop A is Captain Julie Sonntag.  I wish everyone that got promoted the best of luck in their new rank (even though you won’t need it!)
