Before and After Fifty
I first learned about the Red Hat Society when my girlfriend and I went for breakfast at a local restaurant. While we were eating, ladies with red hats and purple dresses walked in filling two tables. They looked fabulous and they were having a wonderful time! We were bursting to know why they were dressed that way and curiosity getting the best of us my girlfriend asked one of them. She said the Red Hat Society was founded as a haven for silliness and unfettered happiness among women of a certain age. There are no "rules" or bylaws of chapter organization. Each chapter structures itself according to the wishes and whims of its members, and the women choose "offices" for themselves as they see fit. The founder of the chapter is referred to as its "Queen Mother". What she told us made us want to start a chapter of our own.Who would pass a chance to be a little girl again and play dress-up? The child is still in all of us just waiting to break free. Let’s enjoy life with smiles, laughter and hat-titude!
