Birding on the Condor Express

This page will hopefully answer most of
your questions about deepwater trips on
the new Condor Express.

Please note that I have no financial
arrangement or agreement with the
Condor Express.

You'll find a quick, easy sign up form
you can fill out, print and send in to
reserve a space on the latest, greatest
way to go pelagic birding.

We've also included links to most of the
relevant pages at this site so you can reach
them directly from here. Pertinent pages such
as the boat trip pack list, or the SoCal Seabird
Abundance Calendar page (which you
should use to pick your dates), and the
Arguello Canyon page can all be reached
directly from here. Just peruse the frame
to the left and click away!

We will soon put up some pictures of the
"water rocket" so you can learn to ID it :)!
Structure and behavior are always a good
key ... it's the biggest, fastest, newest,
most stable, comfortable and modern,
state-of-the-art vessel available for
birdwatching in the Pacific!

We will likely take a third of the 149 capacity
on the deepwater birding trips to make sure
everyone has plenty of "personal space".
I rode the boat down from Crescent City to
Santa Barbara and can tell you it would
be worth the boat ride, regardless of birds!
Having it at our disposal to chase what
we find is the stuff dreams are made of
and unprecedented!

Trip reports from the old Condor trips will
be posted here eventually too. These deep
waters in the vicinity of Arguello have
been very, very good to us over the last
7+ years. Multiple Cook's and a Dark-rumped
Petrel, apparent Murphy's Petrels a couple
of times. Red-tailed Tropicbird and
Wedge-rumped Storm-Petrel,
Wedge-tailed Shearwater and Horned Puffin.
Black-footed and Laysan Albatrosses are
regular. Just in case you needed some kind
of sign .... :):)

Leaders for the April trip besides myself are:
ol' eagle-eyes, Dr. Barney Schlinger
(found the Dark-rump); Don DesJardin to
photo whatever we see; and Bernardo Alps,
cetacean expert. Of course, the Captains
of the Condor Express, are outstanding natural
history leaders in their own right.
Owner Fred Benko and Captains Ron Hart
and Mat Curto are world-class professionals.
Let me put it this way ... I've been on a lot
of boats, some that I shouldn't have been on,
and you couldn't be in better hands than with
these guys! And, you couldn't be on a better
boat than this one!
