BALBOA PARK BOTANICAL BUILDING

 

Fast Facts about MAP--

 

GOAL: To accredit the Balboa Park Botanical Building as a national Botanic Garden and Living Museum by the American Association of Museums.

 

BENEFIT: To increase public awareness about the value of Balboa Park horticultural assets.  National Botanic Museum accreditation for the Botanical Building is a prestigious recognition that also means access to potential funding sources for the Park.  Accreditation creates a destination attraction for San Diego visitors.

 

MAP:  Museum Assessment Program study.  MAP is a self-study project administered by the American Association of Museums that assists an organization in determining its strengths and weaknesses as it pertains to the standards of a national museum. It is a step in the accreditation process.

 

WHO: Some of the organizations that have voiced support of this project include: The City of San Diego, The San Diego Foundation, Friends of Balboa Park, Committee of 100, San Diego Floral Association, San Diego Horticultural Society, Point Loma Garden Club, and San Diego Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
