The house has been known as 'Wind's-E'e' (translation:
eye of the wind) for some time. The house sits on top of a high
point of land. The hilltop most often has a healthy breeze from
the prevailing westerly winds. Some say the knoll was once an
Indian look out point. Indeed the house has breathtaking views
from every window. The name 'The Croft' was added when the present
owners bought the property in 1994. A 'croft' is a cottage belonging
to peasant farmers, 'crofters'. One of the owners had been born
in such a cottage in the south of England. That house had been
called 'The Croft'. |
