The Croft on Wind's E'e is a Victorian story and a half, frame Ontario farm homestead. (c. 1860) The photo at the left shows Madge and Emma Cliffe in a cutter c. 1913. It is thought the house sits on the foundation of a still older, but smaller log home. Alfred and Emma Cliffe (second photo) and their only daughter (third photo) occupied the farm from 1904 until 1974.

The house is known locally as the 'Cliffe House'. Madge (photo to the left, c. 1915,- taken where the 1995 "Garden Cottage" now sits) inherited the house from her father, Alfred, who died in 1950. Emma died in 1952. Madge lived in the house alone until 1974. Much of the land was sold off in 1960. Madge died in 1976 and is buried beside her parents in the tiny "Stone Cemetery" at the end of our road. Her friendly spirit still inhabits the spacious rooms and lovely gardens.

The house had remained more or less unchanged for over 135 years. (fourth photo at left)

In 1995, the present owners added an elegant, self-sufficient wing onto the house. Sitting where a large perennial garden once sat, this is now surrounded by a new perennial bed and is fittingly called the "Garden Cottage". It blends in well with the existing structure. The Cottage makes a perfect weekend get-away: See "What's New" link for more information about the Garden Cottage.
