~Part one~
"Maria, Tyler is dead," Rich said calmly. "He overdosed on something and he just well, shut down kind of."
"Oh my GOD! This can't be happening, were graduating in 2 weeks. Prom is in one week," Maria ran off to go cry somewhere.
She had to deal with the death of one of her best friends and she didn't quite know how. Rich was actually happy about Tyler's death. It gave him room to move in as Maria's very best friend. He wanted to be more than a friend to her. He had no idea where she would go so he decided not to follow her. Maria ran all the way to a beach where her and Tyler and some other friends would always hangout. She sat with her hand in her hands crying while she sat on the empty beach at night. Sammy was thinking very hard about his career. With a jam-packed schedule he didn't know if he could handle it. He heard a noise. He turned to see a girl with sun streaked blond hair and tan skin crying softly with her head in her hands. Normally he would have walked on and left her to cry, pretend that he didn't notice, but something made him sit down next to her and say
"What's wrong?" She was startled and looked up at him. He looked into her eyes they were deep and brown, he saw tears in them. They weren't regular tears but tears that held a great deal of sadness on them, Almost guilt. Just by looking at her he could tell that something was seriously wrong. He soothed her and eventually got her to tell him what was wrong.
"My best friend just died of drug overdose," Maria said quietly. She began to tell him about how he had started using and then it ended with
death.
---Flash back---
"Tyler give it to me! It's ruining you life!" Maria yelled at her best friend.
"NO! It is my life!" Tyler yelled back.
Maria swiftly grabbed the joint from him. He grabbed it back and started to walk away. Maria was a very strong willed so she jumped on his back in an
effort to get the drug away from. He threw her off she landed on a couch. He ran off and Maria knew she couldn't catch him. He kept using until the day Rich had told her that he had died. She thought that it was her fault. I could have tried harder to get the joint away from him that night, she thought. Deep down she knew he was to deep in it to get out.
---End of flashback---
"It's okay," Sammy lulled.
"I'm sorry, I don't even know you and I'm sitting here pouring my heart out to you,"
"It's okay, and my name is Sammy He said.
"I'm Maria," she said.
"Well Maria, witch by the way is a beautiful name, if you ever need someone to pour your heart out to again call me," He said writing his phone
number on hand with a pen that he had in his coat.
"I will but I have to go," Maria said.
"Let me drive you," Sammy offered.
"Okay if you want to my house is not too far a way," Maria agreed.
Sammy led her off to his car she got in and sat comfortably in the front seat. He smiled at her. She was cute. She had high cheekbones. She was tall,
thin and well toned, obviously athletic. Her eyes, although puffy and red we beautiful, deep brown the kind of eyes that he would love to stare into. She gave him directions to her house and he drove there and she got out and thanked him for everything he had done.
"Call me tomorrow," Sammy said hopefully.
"Sure," Maria agreed. They exchanged good-byes and she went into her house.
~part 2~
Her parents were sleeping. She walked up to her room and got ready for bed. She pressed play on the machine and her best friend, Sarah's voice came
on, "Maria, I hope your doing okay I just heard about Tyler, love ya, CALL ME I don't care how late it is when you call just do it." Maria picked up the phone and dialed her best friend's number.
"Hello?" Sarah said groggily
"Hey it's Maria"
"Hey, how are you Maria?" Sarah asked.
"I'm doing okay how are you doing Sarah?" Maria asked.
"Well I just met this guy, DC. I was crying at the beach and he talked to me and made me feel better. He was a sweat heart," Maria said.
"Cool. You know it's not your fault that Tyler is dead," Sarah said.
"I know, but I wish I could have done something earlier," Maria said sadly.
"I'm coming over okay," Sarah asked.
"Okay I could use the company," Maria said.
"Be there in 10 minutes," Sarah said.
"Okay bye love ya," Maria said.
"Love you too," Sarah said. She grabbed some cloths and wrote her parents a note grabbed her pager and ran out of her house to go to Maria's house. She got there about five minutes later. The girls went right to sleep and didn't wake up until noon the next day.
---Meanwhile---
"DC you don't understand, she was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen!" Sammy said.
"That lovely and the back of my eyelids are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen and I want to see them now so SHUT UP!" DC yelled.
"Sorry man!" Sammy said going to sleep and thinking of Maria.
---In the morning---
Maria woke up and looked at her hand 272-2343 Sammy's phone number. She picked up the phone and dialed.
"Hello?" A deep voice.
"Sammy?" She asked.
"Yep. Hey Maria," he said with a wide smile.
"What's up?" Maria asked
"Nothing," DC said.
"Me either just hanging out at my house with my friend, Sarah," Maria said.
"How are you doing?" he asked.
"Better," she said.
"I got to go I have to rehearse but I'll call you what's your number?" He said.
She gave him her phone number and they hung up the phone. Maria told Sarah all about him. Then they had to go over to Tyler's house to look through his things. They were crying, as they looked through a photo album of them in 7th grade. Both girls were worn out and they were upset about Tyler so they went back to Maria's house to sleep. Maria checked her messages and had one from Sammy. She called him back they decided to get together later that day.
They hung out all day that day and Maria liked D.C. and Dallas. They became good friends. They both always had feelings for each other but neither one
would say anything. Sammy thought it would seem as though he comforted her that night on the beach just to get with her later. Maria thought she would
seem like a gold digger if she told him how she felt.
-~-A year later-~-
"Hey Sammy good show," Maria said hugging him.
"Thanks," Sammy said modestly.
"Autographs," D.C. said.
"Okay bye Maria," Sammy said. D.C. and Dallas said bye to her to and agreed to go over to her house later that night and hang out. About an hour later they showed up at Maria's house and Sarah was there. They watched Rush Hour then they were all sitting on the floor of Maria's Living room.
"What do we want to do now?" Dallas asked.
"I say Truth or Dare," Sarah said "I haven't played that game in ages!"
"Okay," everyone agreed to play.
"Sarah, truth or dare?" Maria asked.
"Truth," Sarah said.
"Boo!" Maria said. Then she thought for a while "Is it true that you have a tattoo?"
"True," Sarah said.
"I want to see!" D.C. said. Sarah showed him a small tattoo on her hip.
"Cool what does it mean?"
"Fire" Sarah, said. "Me, Maria, Karla and Ella have Earth, Wind, Fire and Water on our hips."
"Who are they?"
"Our best girl friends. We don't get to see them too much now they live in Puerto Rico," Maria said.
"Sammy truth or Dare?" Sarah asked.
"I'm not going to be a wimp like you so, Dare," He said.
"If you think you're so macho, why don't you pick fire engine?" Maria asked.
"I would but I don't know what that is and that wasn't an option," He said.
"It's when I dare you and you can't back out," Sarah said.
"Okay," Sammy said.
"I dare you to kiss Maria tong and everything," Sarah said evilly.
"Fine," He said secretly happy. He leaned in toward Maria and kissed her. They both felt something. It was like electricity.
They five of them continued the game until they were all tired and wanted to go home.
"Sammy, come help me," Maria said motioning for Sammy to come with her into the kitchen. He came in and sat down.
"That kiss was weird, it felt weird," Maria said getting to the point right away.
"I know. It was different from anything I have ever felt," Sammy said looking straight into her eyes.
"Like electricity," Maria said.
"Yea, look Maria I'm going to tell you something. Okay?" Sammy said.
"Okay," Maria said slightly scared of what he was going to say.
"I've had a crush on you for a long time since the first time I saw you on the beach that night. I never told you before because I liked you so much
and I didn't want you to think that I was trying to get with you by comforting you like Rich did," Sammy said.
Marie was surprised and said, "Wow, I've had a thing for you too but I thought you would think I was a gold digger because you were already in the
group when I met you," Maria said.
"So what do you think? Can we be an..," Sammy said at a lose for words.
"An us?" Maria said.
"Yea," Sammy said. They both leaned in and kissed each other. It was a long sweet kiss with passion and it was just the start of a great
relationship.
The end
