Resident Evil 3: Nemisis

By: Raw1sJer1ch0316

Resident Evil is one of the most popular series to appear on the PlayStation, along with Final Fantasy, Tekken, and Tomb Raider. The previous 2 RE games scared the pants off any tough guy, and may have made a few newbies wet their beds after a long playing session. Capcom tries to recapture the intense gameplay and awesome graphics to create yet another PS masterpeice. Do they succeed or do they milk out a once-great franchise?

The first thing unique about the 3rd RE game is the inclusion of a subtitle, Nemesis. Nemesis is the main enemy in the game, who is genetically enhanced by Umbrella Corp. to hunt and kill S.T.A.R.S. members, no matter what. This Nemesis creature offers pretty good scares, and is a very hard enemy if you decide to fight him. This brings me to the next unique thing about RE3. There are several decision points in the game, where you are faced with a dangerous situation. 2 options flash on the screen, making you pick one of the two quickly. These decision points add a twist to the plot, and can change the outcome of the game. Another thing unique is the very intriguing story. You play Jill Valentine, who is sent to Raccoon City to stop the horrible G-Virus from turning everybody into zombies. How original(insert sarcasm here). This is pretty much the same exact story as the previous games. There are a few new moves though, such as the 180 degree quick turn and the dodge maneuver. These new moves help you a lot in getting away from enemies.

The graphics are still the same, but there a few new touches to the backgrounds, which are still pre-rendered. You might see a couple instances where gas or water shoot out from pipes, which really give the game an extraordinary amount of detail. The CG FMV is really great as well, almost as good as FF8's.

Even with the new moves and improved graphics, RE3 still feels like the same game. Not to say this is a bad thing, because the RE franchise is amazing. If you like survival horror games, and enjoyed the first 2 REs, rent this game before you buy. If you disliked the first 2 REs, stay away from this Nemesis, because you're just going to get bit once again.

Overall Score: 8.5/10
