Front row - Colonel Parker (Santa suit), Gene Smith.  Back row Bitsy Mott, Joe Esposito, Red West, Tom Diskin, Sonny West, Alan Fortas, (unknown).

This section will focus on the people around Elvis.  This first page looks at Colonel Parker, Elvis' second manager.  Yes, second.  Bill Black was his first manager before Colonel Parker (prior to 1956).

Colonel is a very controversial figure.  He is both a Svengali and a Ogre, shrewd and dumb, hateful and compassionate.  Colonel's personality is as complex as Elvis' personality.

It's not often that a star's manager rates his own books.  There have been several written about Colonel Parker, from the first self-published booklet written in 1970 by my friend Hans Langbroek from Holland to a yet-to-be-published biography by my new friend, Alanna Nash.
