My Music Collection
Hi, my name is Donna. I'm here to talk about "the good ol' days", which by my standards are
the 30's thru the 70's, when you could understand the lyrics and dance to the rhythm (in other words, when
music was music). Who were your favorite artists? How many dances do you remember? How many did
you do? Just to name a few that you should remember the Roach, Watusi, Twist, Madison...
I lived with my parents, and 6 brothers and 3 sisters on the south side of Chicago during the rock and roll era. Ma and
Daddy had the music going quite a bit, and we cherished every moment (we were not allowed to touch the
"record player" without permission). We would listen to the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Dinah Washington,
Billie Holiday, Al Hirt, Count Basie, Arthur Prysock, Ray Charles, and so many others. My parents are gone now,
but I know they are with me every single time I turn
on the music. I believe that of the eleven children, my older brother, Skeet, and I are the most serious about the
50's and 60's era.
I attended Englewood High School in Chicago during the 60's, and every week, there would be a stage show at The Regal,
The Capitol, St. Bernard's gym, The Times Square or somewhere in town, and my cousin Connie and I most likely would
be there.
But, although those days are gone, the music lives on.
If I can assist you with finding a certain original label tune or lyrics to a particular song
that keeps going around in your head, feel free to email me.
