promise is pain

promise is pain
an endless drain on practicality
an obstacle to reality

the darker subjects in pandora's box
were not the heaviest of locks on the action of our daily lives
but rather the last subject on which we think we thrive

hope

hope for a better tomorrow
a promise of a brighter day
but reality this is not, come what may
hope blinds us from facing the real
hope focuses our vision on how we feel
a repetition of illusion and fantasy on an endless wheel

hope

promise is pain
but we hold on to it because the darker path ahead is laden with more, and unknown
at least a promise, a hope, is something we know
something toward which we can desperately try to go
